I have a tendency to believe this more than the speculation that they were forced out. I don't know how they could compete with Super Walmart. If they were profitable, as the owners claimed, then they'll open somewhere else. If not, it will likely be the last that you hear from them in the grocery biz.
there were forced out, and there made alot of money, walmart had noting to do with Shop n save closing. Where should they open up, there not store rooms big enough in Latrobe. also the store room has to be made for the coolers. They Could build, but were. The Morellas will still own the Francsize just not store room so they have to Close.
maybe the take the old Giant eagle store room after the build the new store by CVS.

They didn't get kicked out. They were not profitable and have not been for a long time. They paid far less per square foot than any of the tenants there.... I mean far less, like $2.25 a square foot! That is Cheap, and they could not make money.

When people go out of business, they graceful way to exit is to run a we lost our lease ad. No one would take the store over because the numbers were so bad. It's that simple.

The new store will be Dunham Sports.

They were NOT forced out. Giant Eagle makes 5 times more a week than that Shop N Save did, and Wal Mart made 8 times more than that Shop N Save weekly. Don't forget, when they took that store over, they used 20,000 less square feet than the original had used. Why you can't see the math, I don't know. What I do know however is that they were not profitable and could no longer lose money. Period.
Dunham will be in that space. The Shop N Save at Lincoln Road makes money and will remain. That's the difference.

First you are clueless, ABC did not help shop n save. It has not been going out of buissness for two years. there were just rummer, you don't belvive rummers beacuse there are always not ture. and I did talk with the post net owner and he said that post net what him to put 50 thousand in to his place and he said no way
It is a fact that ABC did help shop n save to stay open as long as they did.I'm sure the owners of shop n save would never admit they where being helped because it would make him look like a failure.Abc are also helping and have helped these store owners in the past they aren't as bad as you are trying to make them out to be.

I know the post net owners and you are partially right but more wrong. They have been trying to sell the business for sometime. They are in debt with the business. Post Net (Corp) has rules when the business is sold. Yes a remodle has to happen but also they are only allowed to move so far from where they are located now. I know who was looking into buying the business and financially for what they want for it and what needs done it is not worth it.

As far as Shop N Save goes they have not been doing great either basically since Morelli took over. Why else would you decrease your store size? Morelli is only going to say what makes him look good but if you knew anyone that worked there you would know that there business was suffering.

It was always an uphill battle trying to compete with a Super Wal*Mart and an already established Giant Eagle in very close proximity, an Aldis opening up nearby, plus another Shop N Save closer to downtown Latrobe. Craig and Lisa took a chance and put their blood, sweat and tears into making a go of it, but with the 2008 economic meltdown and a continuously depressed local economy, it was almost impossible to gain ground in such a hostile business environment. It is amazing that they were able to stay open as long as they did and is probably the reason another supermarket isn't going to take its place.

The potentially bad news for the local area shoppers will be the loss of competition with one less out of the picture. Think what kind of prices one would be paying if Wal*Mart was the only place to buy food? Shop N Save nor Giant Eagle can compete on price alone, but they can/do offer different varieties and promote certain specials on certain products at certain times. Many of which are a better value than Wal*Marts prices.

I hope Craig and Lisa can find another business venture to go into. This Shop N Save ended up closing, but one wonders if anyone could have made a go of it under the same existing conditions. The Morellas have shown that they can run a business in a very competitive market and in a very depressed economy. Whatever happens to Shop N Save is no indication of their abilities, work ethic and commitment.

As far as Dunham's...I have my doubts they'll last as long as Shop N Save.

Dunham's is not a particularly nice store. Dick's is way nicer, but even so, they carry one line of a specific sport. I tend to shop online for some sports or visit a shop that specializes in that sport.

The last time is was in the shop n save building it was a Jamesway!

If Dunhams goes in to that area, it'll stay open. The "depressed local economy," will keep it around just like Aldi. Think of it as the Aldi of Dicks sporting goods. Discounted everything sports/outdoors/hunting. PERFECT for sticking it up the ass of Wal-Mart.

It is a sporting goods chain!...unreal just what's needed to put 77 people from Shop and Save unemployed!!! Disgraceful...I wouldn't go there if they were giving things away!

You voted for it too, dumbass. Everytime you show up at an election booth and pull a lever, you sanction whatever gets in office...which is usually more of the same pillaging of the working class to benefit the global corporate elite that pay for all the candidates that run for office.

Too stupid to see the game you're forced into playing and losing everytime. You try to pick the right shell that has the pea under it, but there is no pea for you to find...just more playing the game and losing every time.

All you get to do is call the other side names...how's that working for you?

I see folks mentioning competition with Walmart. I honestly try to avoid Walmart. If it means paying a bit higher prices, so be it. I do the majority of my grocery shopping at SNS on Lincoln Ave. Been going to KMart more and more, and Dollar General. I once watched a documentary on Walmart that made me want to boycott them. I'm sorry the name escapes me now. But Walmart is not a company I want to support. I know there are others out there like me, probably some that flat out refuse to shop there at all. That's part of what keeps the other guys in business for longer than expected. Wish the owners of SNS in RT30 plaza luck in their next endeavor.

Ahhh, into you're aggressive alpha-male animal display. Can’t debate the topic intelligently, so it’s meet me in the alley retort. This is how I envision you when reading one of my posts. You're soooo easy to manipulate. Just like rattling the cage at the zoo.
