Try not to worry. I can't answer your question,
but my guess is it's not closing. Companies like to make big
productions out of things. I know that the harley business has
declined some and they have taken on some new lines, so it's
probably just letting everyone know that changes are happening
and maybe it is just to put rumors like this that have
been circulating to rest! Unfortunately I don't work there and
don't have the answers, but lets hope that's all it is.

They did have a meeting before about 4 or 5 years ago saying they were closing our plant then said thats what we got for starting rumors. There are a lot of good hard working people that work there. Everyone that works there knows how they work, even when things are going good they still find the bad. Very rarely does someone get told they did a good job when many do do a good job everyday. There are people in management that will walk right pass like you are not even there. people would work a lot better if they got a little respect and told when they did a good job or even just a simple hello how you doing today. There are a lot of good people in management too don't get me wrong. Corporate people that come in are the same some walk right pass you and some will talk to you.

This is why any large manufacturer would have to be either stupid or crazy to locate a new manufacturing facility in southwestern PA. The US vs. THEM mentality here is so pervasive that it goes far beyond just union shops where every worker is protected, no matter how lazy or negligent. It's everywhere, every job, every employee, every company.

Locate the same plant in Texas, Utah, Virginia... and it's like being in another country. There you can find workers who actually appreciate their jobs. Imagine that.

Yeah, I'm sure three are lot's of illegals working in auto plants in places like Missouri, Tennessee and South Carolina. If you guys think you're competing with illegal aliens for manufacturing jobs in the US, then you're beyond clueless.

When was the last time an auto plant opened in PA? I remember a Volkswagen plant in Westmoreland county. How'd that work out? Volkswagen recently opened a new auto assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Is this the same plant where a few years ago the employees went on strike and sat on their asses all summer long holding signs by the road instead of working?

Well, bud...it's called go get another job. I wish I could go on strike every time I have a gripe...Whaaa they want my pension...whaaa...I don't get an hour for lunch....whaaa...they want me to do something that's not in my job description...whaaa...Yes. You sat on your ass for an entire summer. You might have got your pension back but all it did for people that drive past there on a regular basis was show that, well, your willing to sit on your ass all summer long holding a sign to get what you want. My 3 & 6 year old try to do that. I bust my ass 60+ hours a week...wish I had a union watching my back. Wait, if I did I'd probably get paid WAY more and get to do a quarter of the work. But my customers wouldn't be very happy...

And while I'm on the subject, "vethead" this is one of the reasons why I can't stand unions...besides the fact that they clog up any semblance of productivity...I have a buddy that started at Verizon right before they went on strike. He had a friend that already had a job there. Well, they went on strike and he had a wife and 2 kids that he had to support. Being a rational human being that had to support his family, he crossed the picket line to actually work, so he could get a paycheck. He was subsequently kicked out of the union but guess what? They still take dues out of his paycheck. For what?! He's no longer a union member. You guys suck the life out of anything that works. This isn't the 1900's anymore. My kids aren't in sweatshops. If you don't like your job, go get another one. I'm BARELY classified by our wonderful government as lower middle class but I know how a business should be run. You people are leeches on society. As long as you get what you feel you deserve, you're happy...f#*@$ng sheep!
