Grow up and be a parent! You don't need the government to tell your kid what to wear. It's your job! Do it!

The only benefit I see is for those lazy parents who refuse to fight with their kids about what is appropriate to wear to school. That argument could be deleted if parents wouldn't buy inappropriate clothes for their kids. How many parents do you hear say, "I wish she didn't wear her skirts so short", yet the kid is 12 and it's obvious that the parents HAD to have purchased the skirt for her.

I am tired of reading about mothers who want their children to "express themselves" by their manner of dress at school. There are so many other ways individuals can express themselves that are more positive and constructive in nature, such as creating visual arts, creative writing, actively participating in music and volunteering in the community, to name a few.

I invite those mothers to visit any high school, where they, too, would see the ways many students dress: blouses cut so low with exposed cleavage that is quite embarrassing; belly buttons and thong-draped hips exposed to all; and boys with such low-riding pants one wonders how they can even walk, let alone hold their heads high when underwear is exposed to the buttocks. It appears as if some students believe the schools are holding music video auditions on a daily basis.

Yes, every school has a dress code that administrators, teachers and other staff try to enforce; however, the main focus of all these professionals is educating young people, not serving as the fashion police.

As is evident, I am fully in favor of school uniforms. It would make everyone's job easier, and the school staff could more effectively use their time and energy to educate young people. It is not a school's job to teach students how to express themselves by way of fashion; it is a school's job to teach them how to express themselves through the oral and written word.

It is not an unreasonable expectation that students come to school dressed appropriately, and uniforms would ensure they do.

Once again let the nanny state take care of everything! The responsibility belongs at home with the parents. If they can't do the job then the administration should help them see the error of their ways.(kick the little miscreants out) Teachers should send them to the office if it's so bad. But I think the main thing is that people should grow some skin, kids will be kids and as always they try to find a way to get under yours, your the adult. Deal with it!

I would love to see school uniforms in public school. The policy would reduce the competition between the haves and have nots, it would certainly bring back dignity in the kids dress instead of the "dirtier we look the better, or the uglier we look with piercings the better."

There is very little self respect anymore.

I know there will be negative posts after my comment, however this is my opinion. Remember, if so called freedom of expression is in the way we dress, then you must defend my right to my freedom of opinion.

You speak of freedom late in your post, I'm thinking from the first part of your post you often think of freedom second not first. Any time you give the government a power you lose a little freedom. It may not seem like much at first, then they come for you because of your beliefs. I think school dress is a trivial issue on its face. However when you look at it from the big picture, the government continuously taking more control from the parents and giving it to themselves. Like I said in previous posts, Its the parents responsibility to dress their kids. Not the governments.

By the way, I would defend your right to be wrong with my life!

I really would like to see the teachers dressing up more. I remember when the men teachers all wore neckties, and I believe that commanded respect. Maybe if the teachers were dressed up, the students would dress better.

You vill dress the way we say. You vill talk the way we say. You vill think the way we say. If not you vill be re-educated in one of our special schools in Siberia! Do you people really want the government to take over every aspect of raising your children?

School uniforms are just one more way for parents to slack off on their parental duties. Here's an idea, get up with your kids and make sure they are dressed appropriately for school. If you don't like what they are wearing, tell them to change. If you are any kind of good parent, they will listen to you and do so. And I agree with the poster above that talked about the parents buying inappropriate clothes for their kids. Obviously the kids are getting the low cut blouses, short skirts, vulgar shirts, etc. from the parents and if the kids are buying them themselves, you should do what I do and throw them away. It's called being a parent.

You can vote all you want, unless you are a board member, it won't matter.

This is the dumbest idea ever. How are kids ever supposed to grow-up when even what they wear on a daily basis is decided for them. I think things are fine the way they are. Schools control kids enough; they don't need to be making their wardrobe choices also.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Pisces

This is another good day to be tactful, and if anything you'll be even more successful than you were yesterday. This is not to be sneezed at, so seize the opportunity to talk to people who can sometimes be very touchy or who need to be handled with kid gloves. If you meet someone who's older or more influential than you, you'll be a big hit with them.
