Ok I couldn't let it go after this. Take a look at all the boys varsity sports record since 2004 at maxpreps.c almost every program has had a number of successful years and all carry a much higher winning percentage that the football team. And if you really want to think that football team is much more successful with Reitz again you are dead wrong. Reitz has yet to eclipse the highest Win total that even Murray had! Size of a program can only give you so much. I remember before Latrobe even had boys volleyball that little old tiny Derry was able to not only compete but also beat the heck out of teams like NA, PH, Mt Lebo just to name a few. I also think that program has gone downhill since shaw has retired. I also think Youngstown state beat Pitt just a week ago.
RIGHT ON STATS - When the smoke clears he will have the same winning percentage as Murray, so much for the hype!! As for dear old Latrobe, his position was supposed to be a TEACHING POSITION the BS factor came into play that alloweed him in the door. Detention babysetter, hall monitor, whatever its all a load of crap and did I mention hype??

We have a young team, adversity of losing a 10'th grader, execution, mistakes, yada yada yada, the guy got it all covered to finish sub-par and remain like non-stick teflon. Gee coach where are all the seniors this year, you know your leaders?

Nevermind, spare me, sounds like another teflon story brewing!!!

Latrobe would love to play AA division football with a few standout atheletes.....but as Ray is finding out thats not the case.
I've followed the now 18-22 year olds for many years, midget days, Jr High, Sr High. Although every year brings new hopefuls I believe these classes were the strongest. The line, the dee, QB, running game, depth, substitutions, versatility, senior leadership.
Good luck & hang in there it might be a long year.
Please explain the 18-22 yr old thang, me's a li'l confused

If memory serves me correctly Ray only was a head coach for 4 years at Jeanette which all happened to be the years with Pryor. If I also recall correctly he served as the d coordinator for over 20 years at the same school. In those 20 years the ones in which they made the playoffs they were out scored by an average of 37.3 to 22.5. I would not be too proud of those elimination scores if I was running the d. He only took the Latrobe job for two reasons. More money and his golden egg in-school suspension monitor job. Please don't make the guy out to be a legendary coach when his only success came while having two players who were quad a talents playing in AA. I am not saying he is a terrible coach but his success comes with an asterisk as any joe blow would have done the same with those two.
please explain what you meant by the legendary comment. It seems like you were boiling and tried to find a reason to go POW, POW,POW and EXPLODE lkie a chat board phenom. Please explain why you INFERRED that ANYONE implied ANYTHING about a LEGEND... Davy Crockett

You seem to know a lot about the coach. What was his record at Jeannette without pryor. Based upon your statement, I assume that the record includes a lor of "scored like Friday" with him on the losing end? I'm interested in getting the scoop.
Please list the scored like Friday games during the 20 years of def coord...as much as you'd like to thinkit, OOPS, I never met Coach Reitz, but I know a guy who spouts OPINIONS on CHAT boards and ACTS LIKE they are facts, so...here ya go.....please list all the BIG, BAD 61-6 like defeats cowboy

Mucci was the reason for the success. I am still a little bitter how he left the program he spent 20 plus years just to chase greater glory with gl. He was a man respected at Jeannette and left kind of like Pitts coach. Latrobe will not become a program that is any better or worse after he leaves. I supported him while he worked under Mucci for a number of years. No longer will I.

Whats tough to comprehend? I'm familiar with the kids in the 18-22 age range having watched them play and been around them personally since their younger days. The classes of 2010,2011,2012, I believe had the better position players, more depth, more leadership, more heart.

If you read the initial post you'll realize the conversation was about the coach coming to Latrobe and whats been seen. The individual above stated he knew the kids who played the first few years under him and felt the talent level was better than what you're seeing now.
So yes the conversation is about the last few years and pertains to Latrobe - TWIT!!!

so what you are saying is that it is the coaching AND players without a pulse?

the recent past talent level was was better, therefore the coaching was secondary.

currently, the coaching is still secondary, because the players have no pulse.

consequently, the coaching is sub par.

in fairness, i know a few players, they are athletes in their own right and they do have a pulse. it's a shame for them to have repeated rotten football games. fortunately, in their "other" sport, they shine as does the team.

Latrobe has OK athletes...the problem is no speed compared to the bigger quad A teams. Gateway's 5th string tailback was faster than Latrobes number 1. Speed rules and we have none...

Reitz is a good coach, but totally outgunned

Good coach is a matter of perspective. Let me run down some specifics from last Fall and you draw your own conclusion.

Stick with a 5'9" corner getting outjumped and beaten several times a game -or- hey coach ever consider substituting someone taller? Even if they dont normally play corner and they are a reciever themself...get in there and cover this guy man on man and dont let him beat us this easily.

Call a timeout on 3'rd down, discuss things with the players on the sideline, get nailed for a delay of game penalty while the QB looks to the sidelines and you exchange hand gestures.
SEVERAL TIMES.

Stick with a young QB and watch the stuggles of your team becoming one dimensional. 20 for 90 passing for 300-some yards on the season was a few things;
(1) Attempting 15-18 yard patterns when the line cant protect beyond 3 seconds. Duh perhaps some shorter routes coach??
(2) You have a Jr on the bench and former QB at wide-out. Neither were called upon when times got real sh!tty and no plays were designed to use this talent.

Your top back goes down to injury and think this is the opportune time for a QB 'breakout'. Connellsville game was was lost because they could run the ball and chose a different path. The 20 some QB rushes were designed plays and others were scrambles when the time to pass wasnt there.

There's a whole sidelines filled with orange every Friday night yet nobody to alleviate these issues?

I went to every home the past 2 seasons plus a couple of local away games. It was horrific to watch.

I think 'LBE FOLLOWER' is also real close to the pulse. Often outsized there were a few that would hit you with everything they had. One of those FYI chucklers Dow and Mike would bring up on the radio side was someone who laid a lick and bent his metal facemask. Certainly wouldnt hurt to see some of that now - next stop Hempfield.

Kid with the facemask was Taylor, happened in 9'th grade when he played with my son and resulted in a concussion. The story lived on for a while. They were both part of a decent offense a few years back. A few had 400-600yds rushing and were >2000 as a team. A very competitive team.

His younger brother is a tough runner and laid some hits on dee. Should be a senior this year but no signs of him. Must not be playing.

Glad I stayed home. I listened to the game on radio and it was clearly pathetic ! 43-7 I turned it off before the 1st half. Better luck next week. They probably will win a few games this year but thats the norm at latrobe. Not enough quality football players.

Winning a FEW games is being very optimistic. Gone are AAA teams that provided a few wins, although those games were never a walk in the park either. Looking at the schedule I'm scheptical of where 1 or 2 might occur let alone a few.
