Well, we are well into June. The Monsoons have yet to begin and we see that the city of Las Vegas, is still facing the same water crisis that we outlined and predicted in our communication to the Mayor's office over 9 months ago. They have hired hydrologists, drilled wells, and talked a lot, but in general, we have not moved to pro-active solution phase. One older member of the Water Board, has proposed the routine list of items, "fix water leaks in the dam", fix water leaks in old lines (basic standard maintenance issues. But, in moving forwardu with real long term solutions, none. A government official, when interviewed regarding $10,000,000 to repair the old dam laughed and said: "Those people in Las Vegas. They have applied for funds to repair the dam before, and near as we can tell, the funds were not spend repairing the dam. Now they want to do it again." So, it would seem, that with the drought, some people now have to drive to laundry mats because their wells have been pumped dry, and businesses that might have moved to this city, or started new manufacturing jobs here, have simply held back...because the city has held back. A new water system, using the underground salt water that is available, desalination plant, powered by wind, could produce enough water to more than take care of Las Vegas for years. But, the old system is at play. "My cousin, and my uncle" type thinking. People who would rather have control and a bit of money in the process, rather than allow good engineering, good logic, and good systems be utilized. The water board, thus far, seemingly cannot make a bold decision, and they appear to be as paralyzed as City Hall. Well, so that book that spoke of Las Vegas not having the ability to be progressive, because of cultural incompetence and control issues may be in place. One individual in a position to know said: "The Spanish would rather sit and die, and do nothing, rather than let a 'Gringo' bring in real leadership and solutions." Surely this city is better than that. All I know is that we have the financing, engineering, contractors, and experienced people to put in a desalination plant that can solve water issues for this city, and create enough water for the city to grow....and everytime we suggest it, there is silence with those that claim to be leaders. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Well, thank goodness at our place we have our own water supplies and don't rely upon the city or the water board. And at our place, if we run out, we will be proactive and put the solutions in place immediately.(Perhaps that is why affluent and successful people are attracted to our neck of the woods in San Miguel County). Wonder if the city and the water board are listening? Come on fellows. You have control and power...can't you use it for progress!!!???!!!
