Audit finds city of Carlsbad in violation
CARLSBAD>> Mayor Dale Janway has repaid the city of Carlsbad $792.73 for per diem and travel expenses incurred during the mayor's 2011 trip to Washington, D.C., and for several instances of meals that exceeded the city's allowed reimbursement rates.

This is actually a semi good story. While there were infractions they are very small in nature. I have seen other cities with much much bigger issues. Some of the state statutes are difficult to navigate and occasionally mistakes are made (like the BWS). So long as the city is repaid and the incidents are non recurring I myself a taxpayer can understand.

why the low reimbursement for travel, ie the federal allowable business milage is $0.56, not 45 cents
also there is a federal per diem guideline per city - why not use it
