The two things are not similar or equal. The North and the South both owned slaves. The North moved away from slavery because of the industrial revolution. Slaves had become obsolete and were an expense and not much of a resource. It was costing the owners to feed, clothe and maintain the slaves. It made good sense to "set them free". Easy way to shed your financial ties to a liability. That said, the South used slaves cause the IR was not so prevalent in the South. So, to simply say that the North noticed that slavery was wrong is not totally true. It became a matter of convenience.
And no, gays are not like slaves. No one is going to set you free. You already are free to do as you please. Marriage still happens to be between a woman and a man.
Read what I said.. I agree with you that the DOMA should be the law.. My comparison is accurate and the industrial revolution had nothing to do with slavery. The north saw that slavery was wrong simply for the fact it was wrong. not because of labor. The south was already seeing Eli Whitney cotton gin could do the work of 10 slaves, so why would they keep them? Simply because they felt it was there right. They represented a small group, just like the SSM community is a small group. The propoganda that America is in favor of SSM is a myth. 33 states have said no. and that speaks volumes

Antiques like you are literally a dying breed. When you're gone, the upcoming generations - who are FAR more open-minded - won't resist gay marriage.
We're all just waiting for dusty old relics like you to shuffle off your mortal coil.
It seems the upcoming generations don't agree with you.. 33 states with laws and amendments banning gay marriage. Based upon voters,, yes young voters of your generation saying NO.. Seems like values are passed on and kept from generation to generation. If you are waiting for us to all die off, you have an extremely long wait.. As generation after generation still isn't going to believe that SSM is OK

What rock are you living under? The most recent Gallup poll showed that 53% of Americans support gay marriage...sorry, you're done.

Even George Will said that "opposition to gay marriage is dying".

Idiots like you are very open minded, true. But the problem is, there is nothing to fall out.
Marriage has always been a cross cultural constraint on evolutionary mating behavior. Gay couples are a violent contradiction.
Even a child knows the drastic contradiction, especially when one couple is mom and dad.
Gays are going to look even more sh/t faced with this attempt to impose a imposter relationship on marriage.
:-)
"...a cross cultural constraint on evolutionary mating behavior. Gay couples are a violent contradiction."

What the f***ck are you on:

Look, more people support gay marriage today than ever before, and that support will only rise in the coming years. The SCOTUS will support gay marriage, and it WILL strike down DOMA as unconstitutional.

You put up a good fight, but suppressive other people's rights never wins.

If you don't think that support for gay marriage is climbing, just review the historical Gallup Poll data:

The thing that I can't figure out is why gay marriage is such an important issue for straight people? Why do you care if gay people want to get married? Do you live such perfect lives yourself that you have time to judge other people?

Conservatives are completely out of touch, as evidenced by the election.

The only time conservative politicians get involved with gay citizens is when they get caught soliciting one for sex (ala Larry Craig).

Yep, there are lots of conservative pols who vehemently oppose the gay lifestyle, but don't mind the odd blowjob from a gay man in an airport mens' room!

Many of you who oppose gay marriage cheat on your spouses, cheat on your taxes and lie every day, but you drag out that tired old "moral" sh**t to defend your position on gay marriage.

You have no more interest in being "moral" than anyone else...you're just fishing for a reason to oppose gay marriage, and it screams the fact that you have no real argument.

So what if people want to marry their on sex. Why can't the greatpendejo accept that most people don't care about same sex marriage. If the pendejo wants to marry a dude, go for it. You will only eventually be divorced like all marriage now adays. Lawyers are the only people that profit and will profit when same sex marriages are allowed in Texas which will happen. To each their own. Live and let live. Geeeeeezzzzz

Tiny telephone surveys, LOL. Meaningless. 500 to 1000 people typically surveyed is supposed to be representative of over 300 million?

Its just a matter of time and old people dying off. Look how quickly the Country went from 0 gay rights states to nearly 20.

Once the SCOTUS hands down their ruling, it'll all be over for you guys.
