The Chief is a great example of a public servant for over 30 years and of the utmost honesty.

Hopefully the city will be wise enough to use the chief to help in-hiring his replacement, or at the very least, be willing to ask his opinion

Chief Romero has been involved with the LCPD since I was in Jr. High.(It's been a while) He worked his way up through the ranks and has done a GREAT job for Las Cruces. I hope his replacement can fill his shoes.

Thanks for all the help with training and equipment and for supporting our efforts as we supported yours.
Hopefully whoever replaces you wants to keep this positive interagency relationship up where it is now.

Chief Romero is a man if Integrity and Honor, and our department has benefited with him at the helm. While all of his decisions were not always liked, it was understood that he made them with the department and the citizens of Las Cruces in mind first. I have served with this man for the past 18yrs and he has always treated all of us with respect and professionalism.

Chief Romero is a ghost. Rarely in public. Slow to answer letters and email. Let's hope his relief is a little better in the public relations arena. The city probably could do worse, but it is doubtful.

As soon as the city council election results came in, Chief Romero read the writing on the wall and knew that his days were numbered so he took the initiative and resigned on his terms and not some vindictive city councillors!

Going to miss you Chief! The city electric bill is going to go up because you are not around to turn out the lights on graveyard to save money. Dang that drove me nuts walking into a dark police department at 3:00Am. That and you sneaking around watching what everyone was doing all the time. You invented Stealth. LOL

This guy has done nothing but drag the entire LCPD's reputation down the toilet since he's been Chief. Why make it appear as though you care and respect him now? Why not wait till he's gone and then you can breathe and offer your true opinions without fear of retaliation. I, for one, wish he'd take the rest of those in high ranking positions who are just as unethical as old Harry. Kudos to his wife for putting up with him! i'm not on the payroll and never have been

"Integrity and Honor", that's laughable at best. Please, bless all of us taxpaying citizens that have been forced to watch this pathetic individual drag this entire town down into his crap hole with even a few things that he did that has "benefited" any ethical and professional police officer. Have you not seen the direction the entire department (including this City) has taken because of his so-called "leadership"? Maybe he was some upstanding patrol officer way back in the day, more then likely he was just one of the "good ole boys", but as a Police Chief he has done nothing but stick his head in the sand and leave his rather large butt sticking out. He has protected and coddled those officers that lost their integrity, he has lied and covered up endless times to cover his tail and his fellow good ole' boy officers. Every single one of the officers that work for the City - and since a majority now work for the County i'm including them here too - know what a terrible "leader" this man was. No officer here can voice their true opinion of him because they know they'll be retaliated against by his "good ole boys" that still remain. Not every citizen is a fool. To those professional and honest officers that are still here - THANK YOU for staying - it has to get better eventually as the bad ones are getting old. First, I will say that I agree with you that our agencies do seem to work well together - or at least from all outside appearances. I also have to mention, even off topic, in the last two weeks i've seen 4 different occasions of a NM State Trooper pulled over on the side of the interstate assisting a motorist with a flat tire - I just think it's awesome to know there are still those "gentlemen" still out there. Now, back to your statement, no, never been arrested, never had a traffic ticket, don't take nor deal drugs, and stealing a tv sounds pretty dumb too. I am a taxpaying native of this city who has sat by and read, watched, experienced secondhand what a terrible leader Romero has always been. You're thanking the wrong person for your training and equipment. I guarantee you he had absolutely nothing to do with ANY OF THEM. When the dust has settled and his fellow bad apples have finally retired as well, those honest and professional officers will finally start to voice their opinions. Until that day, I hope they can stay strong and not cave to the pressures of corruption. To the good officers - THANK YOU FOR DOING YOUR JOBS PROTECTING US.
