This is not a federally recognized tribe but a self proclaimed tribe. Hence a female governor. That will never happen on a native ameican traditional tribe.

This is not a tribe. They are a dance group. There are thousands of danzante groups all over the country that dance for Our Lady of Guadalupe. This is just another one of these groups.

The Church,City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Sun News, and this dance group are using eachother for publicity, tourism, and to make money.

You cant start a tribe 10 years ago. These people are lying to people in Las Cruces, NMSU Indian groups (INCA) about who they are and their "petition". They are phonies.

Whoa, I recall that about thirty years ago while we sat around my father-in-law's porch and we were talking, he would constantly say he was a Piro indian. We live in Socorro, TX. He would say that they are/ were the first and true Native Americans. My-father-law is now deceased. After an intensive research on our behalf, we learned that indeed what he said was/is true. In addition, there is a strong connection with these people in Las Cruces. Why some people have a hard time understanding this is unbelieveable. If anyone doubts then they need to make the time and visit with these people; that is exactly what we did. Trust me you get to see their ancestors' pictures and traditions. The Piro Tribe lives and people need to accept this fact. Also, they really need to educate themselves about these Native people and their existence.

I know for a fact the so called pictures you saw and the people you spoke with are not who they say they claim to be. Call me a liar but people know the truth! There is much to proving you are Native American. You can't just saying you are Native American. Any person can say they are Native American, proving it is a different story. For a reason the process they are trying to get passed to prove and get federal reconized is not going through for a reason. THEY KNOW THE TRUTH! Besides what Native American Tribe lets people take pictures and post them in the newspaper? Rightttt.

These people are distant descendants of Indians who lived in Las Cruces. They have very little actual Indian blood; and some of them are spouses or relatives who are not directly related at all.

Plus 10 years ago these people "started" their own "tribe" after getting made at the original tribe which is petitioning for recognition. They tell everyone that "their" petition is on Ready for Active Consideration but they are lying.

Their "petition" is only a letter of intent and they are #263. They are splinter group at best; made up of disgruntled people and people who were never a part of the tribe to begin with. Go to:

http://www.doi.gov/bia/docs/ofa/admin_docs/Pe...

and see the list for yourself.

They stole the original tribe's name, changed one word, and now everyone in Las Cruces thinks they are for real when they are not.

My guess is they are lying to their own "members" and telling them "their petition" is almost up for review. It is not.

They are liars. They are liars. Thay are liars.

well true history from the roybal clan i hate to bust your bubble but the roybals had nothing to do with the petition that was filed on Jan 18 1971 the avalos family filed that petition and the true cacique family of this tribe is the jemente family and how can you say the roybals have had the leadership of this tribe for 3000 yrs when the history only go's back as far as 300 yrs and no grandpa roybal didnt bring no 22 families from paso del norte to las cruces in 1849 because your greatgrand father was born in 1862 so put that in your pipe and smoke it if it's anyone lying here it's the roybal clan they are only out for themselves the roybals dont care about anyone in the tribe but themselves i know because i have seen it first hand i was there and saw what the roybals were up to

Have you ever heard of Wilma Mankiller she is a former President of Cheorokee nation a federally reconized tribe. I would do research before expressing your comments. The fact is that in the 1920's this tribe had a female governor. The fact that they are not federally recognized does not take who they are away. The are infact a State reconized tribe.

As an Anthropologist I can verify that this tribe is who they say they are and the fact that they are not federally recognized does not make them any less Native American. If you have any questions and would like to see any research to authiticate their heritage please feel free to contact me. David Portillo Anthropologist

OMG that fact that your are human do you have to prove that your are human or do people just accept the fact that you are human. The fact is we really don't have to prove who we are we KNOW who we are. I have a degree in Anthropology and have done the research and we are who we are. Just because the government does not recognize us federally does not mean that we are not who we are. There are over 290 tribes waiting to be recognized does that mean they too are lying and just pretending to be who the say they are. All tribes are different from their names, chants, traditios, customs dances and so on if you don't do the research don't speak you make yourself look like an uneducationed individual who just doesn't know whats what. Sorry but I have a bigger person on my side and he know what i speak is true.

Very intresting comment you know so much about the tribe yet you dought their existance and now you say they are a splinter group.

Well I know that you are or related to the Roybal Family. I have a video of you guys praying to concasula wokan tanka in LAKOTA. If you call yourself Piro's or Tiwas why then do you not use your own Language to pray.

I understand it must be hard to be singled out and take control of a tribe when you live hundreds of miles away but the facts are that you may be who you say you are but we are two. The fact that your family refused to step down after they were voted out of office goes to show just what kind of people you are and yes I have all the evidence to support the things you have done the destroy your own people. I was there when your relatives were voted out and the way the proclaimed to continue to serve as the Government. According to your history your social standing is based on a Monarcy not a diplomatic government where your family continues to rule till the last one right. Not so in real tribes.

As for the government issue the government issues numbers only to recognized groups so where is your ha ha.
