Smith sucks. Hobbs native or not. As a coach he was terrible. Always blamed everyone but himself. Will do the same in Hobbs.

I agree. Smith will do nothing special at Hobbs. He will succeed only if the talent there overcomes his coaching.

Ah hell, got my dream job! I'm an ex player of Smith's he's the worst. Should have won state several times including the year I played but he sticks to his favorites. I agree with the other post, he'll only win if the players overcome the coaching. I hope coach Benajamin beats him in the state finals.

You are probably an ex-benchwarmer of Coach Smith's, and you whine and complain because you weren't one of his favorites? What you say "he sticks to his favorites", and what I hear "wah, wah, he didn't play me" are two different things. Obviously, you weren't one of the players who could overcome his coaching!

As you mature and become a man, perhaps you will learn the error of your ways. Perhaps not. Man up!

I wish Coach Smith the best, hope he can do better in Hobbs. He is not a great coach, he is not even a good coach, but he is a coach. LCHS is better without him... unless you were around him you just DONT know....

Coach Smith did an excellent job coaching at Las Cruces High. It would have been nice to see the team with Gordo, Philip and James go farther, but a kid from Rio Grande hits a 3 from 30 at the buzzer. It happens.

His best coaching job was probably his last year, where he did a lot with a little. Some of you people think that talent just flows through the school, but that is not the case.

And, yeah, I was "around" him for all the years he was there, so it isn't like you have a monopoly on the truth. You have an "opinion", no better or worse than any other "opinion" out there.

I am from Hobbs, born and raised and have seen many strange things take place but this I just cant grasp...."Pride, Hustle, and Desire" As a movie quote comes to mind, "These words are now being used as a punch line!" Oh Hobbs High School and the City of Hobbs, how low have you gone. You are placing your program in the hands of a suspect coach with less than (and less than is being some what of an understatement!) winning record, no championship wins, and your willing to base your "storied" program on an era gone past! Wow...shame on you and to the school board and anyone who had anything to do with this. The Superintendent, who is but a “ figure head” and the Athletic Director who plays to the requests of the fans, weak. Now both sports programs football and basketball can mirror each other….hot bottom basement trash.“80% Tasker and 20% Smith”. Please and I mean please let the spirit ofMr. Tasker rest already…stop using his name as punch line. All the percentages formulate 100% BS!! Two (2) yrs top I give Smith before the so-called “Hobbs Faithful Fan Club” run him out of town. When you start playing into the fans and start thinking like a fan, your going to get no where real fast. Bottom Basement Trash!

You cry babies coach Smith is a great coach he turned kids who liked the game into kids who loved the game. Everyone that complained never got off of the bench. I played for him if you could help the team you played that is with any coach. In las Cruces people get High School level basketball and Middle school basketball confused. Because you were a star at Zia does not make you a star in High school. You guys no nothing about coaching or basketball. Good luck coach

I played first hand for coach smith and no one can use the "oh u were a benchwarmer" crap cuz I was a starter. He doesn't kno how to coach of he did he would have had a championship in all his years. He lost a state playoff game for me that ill never get back!
