First of all, whether he would be distracted from his Lt. Governor's job or not is not the issue here. The issue is that he is being paid to be the Lt. Governor of NM, and if he is out and about campaigning for another political position, he is not doing the job he was elected to do.

Ex-King Richardson spent most of his time running for President while we were stupid enough to pay him to be the Governor. This has to stop since it is a slap in the face of those paying the bills. If Sanchez wants to run for another position, okay by me once he has resigned his current position.

We give this guy $80,000 and he wants another job while we pay him for this one. Just like Richardson and Martinez.

Dear Governor, Sounds like we can eliminate his job and save some budget money.

Sanchez said the combination of being a "new voice, a proven fiscal conservative and the fact that I bring real-world, common sense business background"

John, I hope Republicans make you their nominee because like I tell my friends, who needs Democrats like Martin Heinrich when we have proud pro-union Republicans like you! Yes, I'm a die hard Dem (some say liberal, but that makes me blush) and would love to vote for a brave "fiscal conservative" like you who wasn't afraid in 2001 (during your two year stint as a state representative) to be one of only 2 Republicans to vote in favor of collective bargaining for public sector workers. Believe me, I'll never forget how you stuck your neck out like that and went against all those crazy people in your party who think that we public sector employees are causing states like Wisconsin and Ohio to go bankrupt. Shame on them! They are so stupid and you are so much smarter than them! We need "fiscal conservatives" like YOU (wink) who aren't afraid to stand up and do what's right and give union members like me wages and benefits that far outpace our private sector counterparts.

If only there were more "fiscal conservatives" like you...Amerika should aspire to be more like Greece and Portugal. Despite being bankrupt, I hear they still get 12 weeks of paid vacation....oh the dream. Besides, who needs to work when we can spend other people's money?

What duties? The duties of a Lt. Governor is to wait for the Governor to resign, get indicted, or drop dead.

I agree except that Susana Martinez ran for Governor for 16 months while she was being paid to be our DA. Heather Wilson and Steve Pearce ran for the Senate seat a few years ago while they both got paid to be congressmen. They all do it, and this was an issue started by Wilson to make trouble for Sanchez. Richardson and Denish did same. Hector Balderas is doing it as State Auditor too. And so on, so why single out Sanchez.
Susana was never going to let him have any authority anyway. His only real duty is during the legislative session, and standing by in case the Governor dies in office.
