Almost every Sun News columnist, including Mr. Rubel, takes the high road and confines their comments to the column that they write. However, there is one columnist who takes the low road and feels a compulsion to thrust his opinion on the rest of us via facebook comments, in addition to his regular column. It is almost 6:00 am on Thursday. I feel 100% certain that the person who chooses to drive on the low road will grace us with several facebook comments by the end of today.

Surely you can't be talking about the infamous Michael L. Hays, Ph.D.? You must not be aware that Hays is the "all-knowing", "I'm right, you're wrong", and last but not least "King of the Las Cruces Sun-News Facebook commentors".

Shame, shame on you for not bowing down to his Royal Lowness. You are not alone in being tired of Hays constant attacks on people just because they did't kiss his ass.

The facebook response to Mr. Harbison's column asked the editor to find another conservative column writer. I would extend that argument a bit further. The LCSN needs to get rid of ALL LOCAL column writers (other than Mr. Rubel) and let the local healing begin.

That will never happen. I'm not sure but I think that NONE of the local columnists are paid for their columns, except of course for wlater Rubel who is a employee of the LCSN.

Another option is for the LCSN to formally prohibit anyone who writes a column from responding on facebook.

Those of us who do not write columns can use facebook if we choose. Those who write columns have their views expressed in the Sun News around every two weeks.

The problem is that one column writer writes his piece every two weeks or so and then comments on facebook on a regular basis. This "double whammy" makes the playing field tilt in his favor. Why do the other column writers not respond on facebook? They have the right to free speech. They all have strong opinions. I assume they are all computer literate. I do not know quite how to phrase it, but it seems to me that the one writer in question is violating an implicit "politeness" rule. The implicit rule is: state your opinion in your column and keep your mouth shut on facebook. Facebook is for those who do not write columns. Note that it is OK for anyone to have their say in a forum like this.

That won't happen because of the Sun-News policies. Hays is one of their favorite columnists because he does create controversy on occasion and that sells newspapers. Hays wouldn't know the meaning of "politeness", as he is of the opinion that he and only he is right on every subject and the rest of the world is "lazy, dumb, stupid, unintelligent, etc"...all words he likes to describe people who disagree with his words.

But it is a nice thought though, as Hays is the only columnist who responds to any and all articles/columns, comments whether they pertain to him or not.
