Has there been an Economic Impact Report done for this project? The city has just spent millions of dollars and years revitalizing downtown. What in the world would compel them to even consider a big box store that will drain revenue from our local small merchant economy that has been nurtured for years? Will they pay a living wage? Will this increase the already congested traffic in San Rafael? Or, is this just another scheme to bring in more tax dollars to cover an ever increasing budget.

Who is minding the store? We don't need a big box store in San Rafael, and surely not on the waterfront. Isn't the location on top of an old dump that is already oozing a toxic liquid. How is this going to impact the health of shoppers and neighbors? Will there be full disclosure?

This project needs to be stopped.

Is there any chance that some "impact fees" could be used to properly extend Kerner Blvd. through to Shoreline Parkway? That way we could dispense with the ridiculous "Loop" and move the heavy traffic to wide Kerner instead of narrow Francisco Blvd. East. Of course, some offsetting wetlands restoration would need to be done to cover the "damage" to the mosquito infested swamp behind Home Depot, but better the money be spent there than in trying to make the Target not look like a Target store....

Yes indeed Jim that whole area is a toxic dump, and there is a lot more there than is known to the general public. Some of the now abandoned office buildings built in the area have "sick building syndrome" reported by former employees of Phoenix Leasing. The auto dealers down there are going bankrupt (except BMW), and the City of San Rafael chose to put their Public Works yard there, vacating another toxic site at second and Lincoln. Across the street from there, they built a huge industrial complex on top of a former PG&E gassification plant, where they turned coal into gas. Well, just like Hamilton, they did not remove all the toxics, but much more than Hamilton did. Now that big project at second and Lincoln is 90 percent vacant- from the get go. Marin peaked out in the early 80's for office development and now the only thing left for the greedy politicians and developers in Marin is promote big box stores, senior housing cellblock constructs and socialized train systems. They are promoted by the big oil to sell more diesel fuel, and the stores can sell the tainted Chinese goods transported on the trains.

Welcome to Target if and only if they:

1.Pay all employees appropriate union wages.

2.Provide fully paid health benefits.

3.Provide fully paid retirement program.

4.Mitigate any traffic congestion that develops.

Target launched it's counter-offensive yesterday with a barrage of signs reading "Target Yes", held up on street corners across town. Now me, I'm strongly opposed to a Target out by Home Depot. A Mega Wal-Mart would be sooo much better...

Silly rabbit. Target doesn't sell hardware. For that, you need to go to Home Depot. The chain saws are in aisle 47. And half of aisle 48.
