So your planning a move to Spring Hill, my advice don't come, you'll meet unfriendly neighbors, no jobs and unkept homes and yards. If you speak Spanish you'll love it here, almost like NY no respect for the senior citizen only stares and glares. No beaches here, no music clubs, no trains/buses

nobody really likes it here -
only industry is picking pockets of retirees -
right to work laws mean 'work for less'

ouch ouch and ouch

oh yes - everyone sells something but never tell
buyers the truth

all of above is not mine but everyones final tale;
not fairy tale but tale of woe

My youngest is out of school now and we've been waiting to make the big move. I always thought the Spring Hill/ Hernando area was a paradise.

Is this a case of the glass half full-wmpty, or should I be more careful?

Be extremely careful, the area is a depressed area, with nearly 5,000+ homes for sale and over 400 in foreclosure, NO jobs, unless you want to wait tables or go to Tampa/St.Pete. The new rage is GROW HOUSES, many of the newer homes that are sittting empty are now rented and people are growing weed to make ends meet. Prices of homes are dropping like lead, and you can get a good deal on many homes, if you want a crackhead next door. Many are moving out of here, because of the economy situation and going to TN and GA. There is a push by the builders to lower the Impact Fees attached to each new home built. If that happens and they lower the fees, rest assured that TAXES will go UP. Also many sinkholes in the area, and new insurance rules that if you claim a sinkhole, house has to literally full into the ground or be unenhibitable and for this we pay BIG bucks.
I would think twice before coming here, if I had to do over, I would have never come.

ok woooops ----

thats you if you goof and give up all for this fall by moving to Spring Hill.......
yeah sure... Spring Hill & Brooksville are not
side by side, usually act like enemies.... S H
is a non city developed by a corporation to avoid
meld with Brooksville.
Forclosure rate on homes is highest in nation.
Jobs don't exist (one 19 year old was 1 of 240
applicants for 22 new jobs at a new chain market
this week for a minimum wage 'clerk' slot). Vacant
stores outnumber occupied in most malls.
As a former NYer retired with big bucks I overtip
waitresses because they don't have bucks for kids
nor gas. New babies - 8 0f 10 illegite. High Schools graduate some but not all; graduates don't often finish 1st year at college.
One lady, formerly from NJ has 19, 21,24 year old
kids - only 1 working..........
want this? woooops some to Spring Hill........

FFJack, even with the high taxes in NY, things here in Floriduh are much worse. I have never seen so many empty houses and for rent signs, people think "I'll come to Florida, nice beaches, warm sunshine" yet 3/4 of the people stay inside most of the day, why because the heat will fry your brain. There is no nice beach within 40 miles of Spring Hill, you have to travel to Tarpon Springs (Howard Park) or Clearwater to Clearwater Beach and pay for parking, nothing like running back and forth to the meter. Food prices are just the same or higher here, gas prices are near $4.00 a gallon. They cut the hours on our local "bus" and are cutting back on hours of business by the county. They want to cut the Impact Fees so the builders can build again and put money in their pockets, but where will the money come for other things why from us the taxpayers because they will raise taxes. This place is disgusting, and I want out of here and go where at least you can earn a living.

Stop and "think" before making any decision, once your here its hard to get out of here, like so many others that are stuck here.

I'm sorry some of you are hurting. Keep the faith and please remember these conditions occur in economic cycles. Things are sure to get better, but it may take awhile.

We still love Hernando Beach, but will tread carefully. Thanks again. You seem like you will be great neighbors.

There are only THREE restaurants open on Shoal Line Blvd.......Bare Bones, pretty pricey, but good food and The Spanish Food place, which has a crowd there at night, and the place by the bridge BJ Gators, not many people going in there, at least 10 people that I saw. Restaurants are hurting, I've never seen Red Lobster on US19 empty, but during the week, at noon its empty, server's are let go early and go home.

RED LOBSTER.......sends servers home at 1:00 when
customers don't materialize........been going there at least 1x week for over 5 years but those
subtle serving sizes and 'lunch' menu cut-backs are starting to send me to THE RESTERAUNT

and then 'old' CRACKED EGG replaced by 'new' CRACKED Egg went flipped..........

To any one looking to move to Spring Hill or Tampa area. DON'T! Come.Foreclosure filings are approx. 80 to 180 per mounth depending on where you are.Houses are left empty and look like hell!. The general job market is poor and wages are low. The professional job market is better but with paychecks much lower then in north east U.S. My dauther when graduateing High school wanted to go to buisness school. She was told to prepare to move back north.High schools also encourage students who do not have high grade scores to drop out.So the schools will have higher grade averages. My daughter did not have this problem her average was 4.10 But! most of her education came from up north.Taxes here are low but everthing here costs extra.Sales tax is at 7% but is expected to rise. The state of florida has no money. They just raised the price of traffic tickets to raise capitol. So be carefull if you visit.Colleges and universitys are loosing professors and staffing and are in jepordy of loosing creditdation.Insurance for homes is still rising.Retiree's and those on fixed incomes can no longer survive here. It's no wonder they have bumper stickers that say "WELCOME TO THE SOUTH NOW GO HOME"!.But you just gotta love the sun shine state!.

Hudson lover, just a couple of weeks ago I may not have believed you. Now I'm going to be very cautious before making any big moves.

Thanks for your insight. Permit me to buy you a beer at Hudson Beach sometime.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Scorpio

If you're feeling brave enough, you should get out all your receipts`, and then tot up how much you've spent this month. Or don't you have the courage to do so? It will be far better to know the truth than to pretend that everything's all right. But don't let it spoil what promises to be a delightfully enjoyable and rather emotional day.
