A much better alternative to more tent cities; eliminate property rents and put those people back in their real homes. In fact, here is a petition that everyone must look at. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/notaxfl...

why should I sing a petition to help someone who spent more then they have,
I hate it when everyone thanks that they have to house like the jones's or their parents.
I live in a small house, paid for house. my monthly bills are $700 a month. I have no car payment no credit card payments, no brat college payments.

I have been living at Tent City for 4 months. Never thought I'd be homeless. I have spent 30 years in the resturant business. I cannot compete with 20 and 30 years old. I have integrity so moving in with a total stranger is out of the question. Sex for lodging is out of the question. I have sought employment since last February with a car, on the internet, thru word of mouth. No job; not even call backs and I am not a felon nor do I have any lesser charges. I don't drink or drug and I'm not walking around hundreds of pounds overweigh and dirty. Tent city is far better than most of the other alternatives but try sleeping in a summer tent when its 35 to 40 degrees outside and inside the tent. Try dealing with 300 total strangers with all kinds of agendas, some not good at all. What has happened to America Homeless at 61

If you do the right thing and not accept welfare of any kind until your retirement is gone then often your reward is to be lumped into the same category of they who are living well yet still accepting all types of welfare. But this is a good thing happening here. Right when i thought they were going to put them in fema camps they suprise me with this.

Is Deborah an orphan? Does Deborah have family? Deborah "came out and found a note" on her stolen SUV? So it was stolen and returned? Was this $450 all that stood between Deborah and homelessness? Did she follow a guy to Florida from New York with $450 and expect it to be easy?
There is a little more to Deborahs story, there always is. This sounds a lot like a long series of terribly poor choices.

I was homeless in Tampa not even 2 years ago, and I went to work everyday at the local labor pools to keep me afloat till I found something better!
Try going into Right Hand Man every morning at 5am and see for yourself.

I agree with Jerry....but for women it is even tougher bc there are not a lot of jobs for women at a local labor pool place. And the women are more embarrassed, and sought out to get off the street because it looks bad on a community. That is usually when the pd will try to get them to go where no one will see them.
But, they still exist and are out there. Think!!! someone who supports themselves all their life now has to rely on you! Do you think that is what they want? No.
There are other factors that happen up to that person be evicted on the street.
Not always our choice!

Go to save harbor beside the courthouse on 49th. The place is safe and the public defender's office can help you with the other stuff to get back on your feet.

I'm sorry that your husband chose the path that he did but, to lump everyone in the same basket is wrong. I agree, there are people living in tents because they chose to be there because they were too lazy to live in society. But, there are also a few that made some unintentional bad choices that led them to the tent. There are some that are at a mentally disadvantaged and the right choices are not as clear to them as they are to you or I. There are people who have also been dealt a bad hand in life and have just given up hope. We need to have compassion when we see a homeless person because they are people just like us and each of them has a story.Outside help should be offered to the ones who desire a better life but are also willing to help themselves.
