TF South used to be a good school. Now it is full of people with no respect for anyone, and no desire to do a thing. If these are the examples of America's future, it is time to move.

Memorial Junior High is the breeding nursery for TFS problems.I am a TFS graduate and it's sad to see the school in the social climate that it is. I went in to get some records recently and it seemed like I was on the planet of the apes.

Just checking in on my home town of Lansing. Graduated from South in 1969 which makes me 59 years old. The only thing that can change this is the parents of their own children tightening up the rules on their kids. They most of the time have no clue what they are doing. Live now in a small town in North Ga. and can see the difference. Not good news but true. Lansing Still seeems like home though.

I graduated from TF South in 1973. Moved to Texas when I turned 30. I am shocked by what I hear and have seen not only about TF South, but about Lansing, and even River Oaks Mall. It is a shame. Lansing was a nice bedroom community. It was safe and people were friendly. River Oaks was an open mall and a great place to shop. Things do change. Glad I live down here. San Antonio is not perfect, but the weather is great, the people are friendly, and the city is booming. Guess I moved at the right time.

Butch: I graduated from TF South in 1976. Hey, you must have been one of the Seniors (when I was a Freshman) that threw a volleyball at me as hard as you could when we played "Slaughterball" in P.E. class!(LOL) This was sort of an initiation for all the Freshman boys at TFS. Only when I got to be a Senior, somebody thought Slaughterball was too dangerous and I never got to be on the right side of the initiation! Ah the good old days!

Unfortunately, the good old days in Lansing seem to be over. If you haven't been back there for awhile, say 7 - 8 years, you would barely recognize it. There has been major white flight out of there in the last 4 - 5 years. I was there in 2009 and it has made quite a turn for the worse. The few people I know that are still there report a major rise in crime, hearing gunshots in the middle of the night and such. The sick economy keeping them form selling their homes is the only reason they are still there.

Here is a link showing the 2010 Census results for Lansing:

http://www.muninetguide.com/states/illinois/l...

As you can see, Lansing is 49% white now. If you look farther down the link you'll see some of the surrounding towns: Lynwood is 23% white, Glemwood is 22% white, South Holland is 16% white, Calumet City is 9% white, and on and on it goes.

So, if you want to keep your pleasant memories of the old days in Lansing and TFS intact, don't go back there now!

So, gunshots in the middle of the night and a "major" rise in crime, if that were true, it would be reported in the newspaper. And guess what, it's not. Why, because it's not true. I've lived 48 years, my husband is a police officer. It has changed, but not to the extent you make it out to be. It's still a good community to live in.

As for River Oaks, the worst thing they did was enclose it. They just hang around in little gangs now. Before they would shop and go home. No where to just hang and bother people.

To NOT TRUE:

Crime in Lansing is not being reported? I don't have to look any farther than this very same forum to find headlines like these:

Men Charged With Raping Girl, 11, At Sleepover (Happened in Lansing less than a month ago.) Here is the link:

Lansing teens face felony charges in fight

Shots fired in early morning hours Thursday

And there's more if you keep looking.

You mentioned that you lived in Lansing for 48 years. Does any of the above sound like typical Lansing headlines 20 years ago? Or even 10 years ago?
