to Irate Lansing Resident...do some homework. You obviously do not know Mayor Abbott. He actually does give a shit about the residents. Pull yourself away from your electronic devices and see what's going on.

The Lansing Village Party has a Meet & Greet this Thursday March 21, 7pm at the Knights of Columbus.

This was taken from a Lansing Village Party handouts.
Here is a list of what they have accomplished:

Balance the budget each of the four years in office

eliminated wasteful spending which lead to NO TAX INCREASE for 2013

put an end to unethical & unsustainable pension spikes

eliminated the prior administration's ordinance that gave automatic pay raises to elected officials (Abbott, Kapteyn, Lyzenga & Stole refused all automatic pay increases)

adopted an ordinance that actually lowered the salaries of the Mayor & Trustees

hired a professional Village Administrator to bring the technical expertise needed to guide a village in modern municipal management practices

diversified our workforce & built a team of department heads consisting of rue professionals

developed a plan to successfully reduce the $3 MILLION dollar deficit they inherited in the refuse department, while maintaining excellent service with a cost savings of thousands per year

paid off over $1.2 million dollars of unpaid bills inherited from prior administration

worked with legislators to secure a 12 year extension for the Downtown Ridge Road TIF

obtained a $100,000 grant to hire an expert consulting team to develop a comprehensive plan, vital to economic development for the next 15 years

annexed airport land from Lynwood into Lansing, for an airport expansion

developed a facade incentive grant program for downtown Ridge Road to help businesses improve the exterior of their buildings

developed a program to aggressively manage vacant properties

opened new means of communication with residents via social media like facebook

initiated a capital improvement plan to address street resurfacing needs, already improving over 10 miles of streets

worked with federal & state agencies to initiate an evaluation and improvement of our levee system - insuring Lansing properties are protected from 200 year floods

adopted an ordinance that limits the number of certain types of businesses, such as cash for gold, title for cash and payday loan stores

improved the village bond (credit) rating from a B to an A1

created a climate of inter-jurisdictional cooperation & partnership with over governmental agencies, school districts & business organizations

recently hired additional code enforcement staff to improve proper maintenance of properties

passed a comprehensive Ethics Ordinance that sets high standards of integrity for elected officials and employees

lowered the cost of the village's insurance by $200,000.

Proud Res 2 - You forgot a very important one. Sent the former mayor to collection for his $30,000 debt he owes Lansing taxpayers for unpaid insurance premiums. That serves as an important warning to all employees that it is no longer business as usual at the Lansing Municipal Center - attempt to take advantage and you will suffer the consequences.

"hired a professional Village Administrator to bring the technical expertise needed to guide a village in modern municipal management practices. diversified our workforce & built a team of department heads consisting of rue professionals." First, He hired an Administrator in addition to his own pay, that's a cost increase genius. The Mayor was supposed to do that job. This knucklehead couldn't be bothered. Second, the "true professionals" you speak of, either you never dealt with them, or you've never dealt with true professionals. They're a joke. The hiring of additional city employees is cake topping for providing security for the Thornton Township Democratic Party. More secure votes, less tax base. what a shocker. The "Engineer" they sent my way couldn't spot a grade when he was standing on it. Then they "contract" garbage collection and let the collectors go, and lo and behold, the streets don't get plowed and the rates go up. Uh Oh, yeah, he sucks.

TELL ME ABOUT IT! JUST RECDEIVED A $2,000.00 FINE FROM HEARING OFFICER Angelo V! STATING THAT I DID NOT I DID NOT APPEAR IN COURT FOR THE FOUR TICKETS...(NOT WARNINGS) RECEIVED AFTER 2 OF MY DOGS ESCAPED FROM ME WHILE WALKING THEM!(HAS SELDOM HAPPENED IN MY FORTY YEARS IN Lansing)Why was the court date not on the tickets written by the officer & shift commander who I spoke with & told that he was arrogant & a terrible police officer & make all police officers look bad? Strange how I
DID NOT RECEIVE EVEN ONE SUMMONS TO APPEAR IN COURT out of four tickets received from LPD'S finest. Or maybe not so strange when you consider that LPD is involved & we know they like to be worshiped!
This is not the way to deal with residents. How do you fight these people without having to spend more money>? Your word against theirs, as they certainly know & enjoy the power so very much.

I'm sorry, do you even know what you're replying to?? The former Mayor Dan Podgorski stayed on the village insurance and never paid a dime. When he was informed he owed money, he did nothing to start paying for the free insurance he received on the village. He was turned over to collections.

If you were issued 4 tickets, did you call for further information on them?

I see you suffer from Internetitis. Where you no valid points so you go straight to personal attacks. Before Homewood Disposal Service was contracted for garbage disposal, the Village Trucks plowed the streets in addition to picking up the trash. Snow was cleared off the secondary streets within hours of the primary streets being cleared, not days. Now it takes 4x as long to get to the secondary streets. It's called math.

It's pretty clear the only reason that a village administrator was hired is because Norm Abbott is absolutely incompetent to run a town. When you inherit your riches and business because you marry the richest guy in town's wife, then act as if you built that business from the ground up after the old man dies is a riot. Oh the "village administrator", let's see... what did he do before becoming in such a position, CIGAR SALESMAN. Thats right, prior to becoming the VA of south holland, he sold cigars. Sounds like a good qualification for a $130,000 job, plus 400 a month in vehicle stipend. Oh and why would you drive a conservative vehicle, no, in fact I think a full size SUV is in order. It's also a good laugh when Abbott is bringing all these "new" businesses to town. Wal-Mart, oh wait thats relocating. IHOP, oh wait, thats just relocating too. A Hibachi grill? Sweet; while tasty, I doubt it's going to fill the void in the Landings that wal-mart is going to leave. While Abbott claims to be reining in the spending around town, just take a look. Crime is up and the town is in disrepair. An understaffed public works and police department will do that to ya! Abbott loves Wynsma as his VA because now he doesn't have to answer anybody's questions, shows up to work in a shirt and jeans, and gets to have a non-elected official point him around the office all day. How fun! Where's outspoken Bob Ryan when you need him? Where has the planning and zoning board been for the last 20 years? Remember when the economy was "good"? There were still a TON of vacant businesses in Lansing. Thanks Grace, you screwed that one up. Good job petitioning the state lawmakers to permit businesses from building at the airport without having to pay the high tax first, that parking lot off Wentworth is a great spot to watch planes lane, I would hate to have it obstructed by a silly, tax-paying, building. Oh Abbott's team made Lansing a face book page to "open lines of communication". Oh my god why didn't I think of of this already, this face book thing is so cool!. Wait, Hang on, oh, shit, Abbott just got on the late train to face book land, welcome to 2013 man. Every board meeting I attend and as I drive around town, I can't believe I still have to call this place home. The pot holes are a great reminder. Well, thank goodness the for sale sign has been up for a few months now, except no one wants to move to this place, so I'm stuck!

So the Village Administrator is making $130,000. Big deal, Podgorski was making about the same thing and he NEVER showed up. The last four years of him as mayor were a joke. Many times village administration ground to a halt because he would disappear for weeks, never come in, and not be available even by phone and wouldn't be there to give directions. Ask the staff who worked at the old village hall how he would scream and swear at poor Kathy Dahlkamp when she would try to get some answer out of him for a department head or resident when he would finally make an appearance. He was an asshole to her. The only time that guy started appearing in the office with some regularity was when he was attempting to bamboozle the residents into getting rid of the term limits through his referendum. People saw through him and overwelmingly voted against it. He didn't show up for weeks sulking. And the vularities he used in describing the residents of Lansing because of it showed his true colors. Thank god Mayor Abbott was elected back in 2009. It was he who had the guts to make the hard choices financially and has gotten us out of the sea of red that were the books thanks to Podgorski. And thank god he has pulled us into the 21 century with village administrations everywhere to have someone with the education and exerience. Check J. Wynsma's bio fool.

I asked Pordorski once how often did he speark to the Chief of Police about crime in the city and he said "he rarely talks to him". Quote - unquote - rarely? I said your kidding right. Podorski was not a good Mayor at all.

I believe Mayor Abbott wants what is good for Lansing. However, his approval of businesses serving alcohol to install video poker gambling will hurt many residents and end up costing Lansing more than it will benefit from this vice.

According to 'Addiction by Design' this vice is known as "the 'crack cocaine' of gambling because of the intensity and speed of gambling."

It will affect entire families. See: www.ilcaaap.org
