I think a skate park would be good for all the teens who have nothing to do. They do drugs, get pregnant, and possibly pass over because the only thing they have to do is play in the street.

Not just for teens but for EVERYBODY who wants some practice skating. I think it would be a great idea.

Why do these ideas ALWAYS fall on the laps of the Lansdale tax payers??? Why not put this in Sellersville, Hatfield or anyother town in the North Penn Area??? Please remember there is liability that goes along with this idea. I don't want my taxes going up anymore than they have already.

There are other ways to keep kids out of trouble and away from drugs. When my son was going through his teen years, my wife was a stay at home mom. No, it wasn't easy living on only 1 pay check; but she had the time for him that he needed. When he wasn't old enough to have a paying job, he did help out at some of the local charities. He also was in the Boy Scouts; and he also belonged to the YMCA, and the Boys Club. All of these activities looked very good on a resume. He had no trouble finding a job; which he has had for 4 years now. He works hard and is very well respected by his peers where he works. He never had time to get into trouble or do drugs. Even though it was hard with the 1 pay check, we would do it again. Parents pay attention to YOUR KIDS, or you may have to pay the consequences. They need YOU more than YOU realize.

Joe, There is no liability for a public skatepark. It's like saying the city is responsible if you twist your ankle playing basketball at a public court. Every Park I've ever been to is posted "skate at your own risk". Along with that is a sign informing the user that the locale is not responsible for ramps that have fallen into disrepair. The only problem is finding the funds.(maybe if a locality would suck it up and build a concrete skatepark around here the community would really see some long term benefits)

I would not want to see a skate park in Lansdale. A better place to put a park would be on the turnpike were no one lives.

Lansdale is like the white trash capital of montgomery county and people want to complain about the image it will have on Lansdale? Get over yourselves.

A perfect place for the park would be where the old bowling alley was.

Kids need somewhere to go rather than the malls where the Joe's accuse them of being disrespectful and in your face: though ive never had one problem with them.

Joe, maybe you should stop trying to be their father or judging them. Learn to respect the age difference. You were young once too.

Kids have turned the vacant lot behind the former PNC Bank building into an informal skate park, and while I don't agree with them using private property to play on, they are having an awful lot of fun with very little. What would be SO BAD about a skate park?

Are you serious? well i also pay taxes and i have a child that should have somewhere to play and skate. everyone is always worried about there tax money well lets see our taxes go to the jails and to the welfare system so why not put that money towards something these kids can do. this is why the kids today end up in trouble or pregnant there is nothing in lansdale for children to do.

That's just cruel. It's the same as having no skatepark at all! No one lives on or near the turnpike, to be sure, but how would a
skateboarder that doesn't drive get there?

The former Lans-Bowl lot would be perfect. Treat it just like one of the Borough swimming pools, and Lansdale might even make some revenue from memberships and snack sales.
great idea

You know putting a skate park were the bowling alley was would be great and your right the town could make money off of it. i just feel that there should be a skate park otherwise you see skaters all over thee place. its very dangerous without a designated area. they are in parking lots steps in shopping centers and riding off of curbs. i hope one day they just build one and i know many parents would pay a membership and spend money at snack bar....

There are MANY parks in Lansdale, where kids can play. These parks also have basketball areas, as well as tennis courts; and open fields to get up a baseball or football game. There is also the YMCA and also The Boys and Girls Clubs, both of these organizations offer things for kids to do. As far as kids ending up in trouble or pregnant, PARENTS need to be PARENTS. Take some time out your busy day to TALK, to your kids about these situations. I know it's not easy to be a parent these days; but PARENTS need to be there for their kids. There is NO substition for loving parents.

I think Chalfont would be a great place for a skatepark.

It was reported on the news about kids being banned from malls on weekends. The owners of these malls are tired of babysitting these kids. The owners are also tired of losing business because of these kids. Respect is something that is earned, it's has nothing to do with age.

As for my child he is not a very athletic kid, i have tried that route with him. my kids go to the ymca and one plays sports but my other child is into skateboarding and there is nowhere he go to do just that. there are parks and they go to the parks but still no skateboarding. not many kids at 12 want to slide down the slide or swing on the swings. so i dont understand why its so hard for lansdale to build a skate park and why are you so against it

as a teen who lives in lansdale, i think a skate park would be great for kids! obesity rates are at a high in the united states, and having a FREE place to excersize and have fun would be great! most parents cannot afford to pay for their children to join the YMCA. also, alot of families dont have the stability to take their kids to boy scouts or girl scouts. i think that a skate park would be beneficial to everyone in lansdale. it would keep kids off of the streets (and out of trouble with the police) and also give them something to look forward to. lansdale gives nothing back to the kids that reside here, so least give us something (:
