They had a 49 year old with them. They were trespassing on private property. I am in Gaffney and have heard many different stories about what happened, including the first responders on the police scanner.

"One thing I dont understand is if the friends saw him go into the water then go under, why didn't anyone try to save him?"

You would have to know that part of Broad river. It is VERY dangerous in that area. Some parts ar 40 feet deep and have suck holes that will pull you under. If they had jumped in after him, we might have 2 or 3 more deaths.

It didn't cost my mom or dad a dime to teach me to swim. If you are to busy to take an hour a week to teach your child to swim and to save your childs life, you are to busy!
it is not so much as being busy as trying to make a living, you have to remember when you are in single parent house hold that parent is what....working to keep food on the table, clothes on your back and a roof over your head, so yes I guess that qualifies as to busy

I was a single mother for 3 years. I worked 2 jobs to support my daughter plus went to school part time. I still had time to teach her things. Come on now, stop making excuses.

not making excuse just trying to make you understand that everyones life is not the same and you need to look at all angles, I'm a single mother as well and have been for 13 years, yes I taught my child things like values and sometimes I didn't get to what you might think is the important stuff but you work with what you have, Anthonys mother did just that, yes she might not have given him the proper education(as some people would see at least) but we're human and we do fail sometimes not in the favor of our children, and yes that is sad but hey what can we do but learn from out mistakes, and remember you only heard some of the story. there is more to what happen then what was reporte.

You've made your point and I've made mine. I'm not going back and forth with you on this. I'm to old for that. I do respect your opinion, however, I don't agree. Simple as that. And, well, you're not going to conveince me that you or anyone else is to busy to teach a child to swim. So, we'll just leave it at that :)

I'm not blaming the mother for this. I'm simply saying, if we took a little more time to teach our children things, a LOT of stuff could be prevented! EVERYONE should know how to swim. EVERYONE! The water is dangerous and you can die even if you know how. Why wouldn't you want to try and at least learn and prevent it if possible? Just like teaching your child not to run into traffic. You do that because it will save his/her life!!!!! Why not teach them to swim for the same results?

Supervision or not, this is what teenagers do. They live on the wild side. My heartfelt wishes go out to his family.

The kids with him DID know how to swim. It was all a set up for him so them boys couldn't be prosecuted for his murder. Them boys didn't panic. They acted so they wouldn't be charged! Til this day, no one has been charged and the case isn't even opened.

actually anthony was black and very much loved by family and friends. This has not been a very good year for this family, they lost his father last year after a very long illness, and now his only son is gone. please show some compassion towards this family, remember his mother lost her child right before mothers day.
Why hasn't the truth came out about this story? Wju have they closed it? Will they ever lock them boys up? Or did they just get away with murder?
