The mayor should be ashamed of himself for not getting his son the help he needed. What I would also like to know is where on earth were this girls parents. Didn't they monitor what this child was doing on her computer. Everyday you read about this happening and that parents need to get a handle on this. That door swings both ways. How sad for both families.

I agree with Poor Richard...Joe Nametko needs to resign. It is simply not fair for the town to be pulled into this because the mayor cannot let go of his position. There will be a large amount of collateral damage to the town if the mayor stays on. We would be better off if one of the resident alcoholics on the town council takes over.
Not too sure about that....JS is his sidekick.

Yes and It's what happens when you have parents that refuse to have their children take responsibility for their actions. I have no sympathy for him or his family. My sympathy goes to all the children/families that were destroyed by their actions then and now. Very Sad!!!!
Also, I don't want this Mayor representing me or the town. If there was a cover up back then with his son, can you imagine what he may or may not do with town business. I DON'T TRUST HIM !!! A LETTER OF RESIGNATION IS IN ORDER!!!
As much as I would love to see it happen, unfortunatley a letter of resignation cannot be demanded for the mayor when this is something regarding his adult son. He legally cannot be held responsible in his public position for his son's actions since he is a legal adult, even more because it did not happen in his town (at least the "missing article" did not confirm any illegal actions took place in Netcong). I wish the mayor realized the first time this happened that his son needed SEVERE help and I wish he had actually focused on being a father then instead of bennifting himself and moving up the polital ladder but this just shows how screwed up his priorities are. His son BETTER be held accountable for it this time. I hope to God this does not happen again.

They should let this 25 year old out and let the parents of the victim take care of him. I know that is what I would do. Jail would be a safe place for HIM.

Bail was kept at $150,000 Friday for a Netcong man who allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl and already is a Megan’s Law registrant because of a sex offense he committed as a juvenile.

The disclosure that Brian Nametko, 25, is registered with Netcong police because of a juvenile sex offense conviction was made by both his defense lawyer and an assistant prosecutor during a bail reduction hearing before Superior Court Judge Stuart Minkowitz in Morristown.

Defense attorney James Maynard asked the judge to lower Nametko’s bail from the original $150,000 set upon his arrest Sept. 2 on sexual assault and child endangerment charges. But the judge, at the urging of county Assistant Prosecutor LaJuan Tucker, rejected the request for a $50,000 bail and maintained the sum at $150,000 with no 10 percent posting option.

Maynard said that Nametko’s parents are willing to alter their schedules to provide maximum supervision to their son, who lives with them. But Tucker noted that the alleged sex acts between Nametko and the underage girl occurred at his parents’ home while they were away.

Maynard said that Nametko in one week was supposed to take an examination to complete his training as a stockbroker. Nametko’s father, Joseph Nametko, is the mayor of Netcong.

“My client does not represent a danger to the community,” Maynard said, noting that the alleged relationship did not involve threats or violence.

But the judge, who said he was taking the juvenile record into consideration, said he believed the $150,000 bail was reasonable.

A person identified as a “citizen witness” alerted police in late August that the 14-year-old girl had detailed a sexual relationship with Nametko in her diary. The girl told police she met Nametko through the Internet and their relationship, which allegedly spanned June through August, escalated into sex.

In New Jersey, a person must be at least 16 years old to consent to having sex with a person who is four years or more older than him or her.

The alleged sex acts occurred at the Mayor's home. I guess I really don't have to say anything more, except this is not the type of person I want representing our town.

I think that his wife (the mother of this young man) should put her foot down and tell her husband to put family first.

I would not wish this on anyone..especially the victim.

I would hope that the family would intercede and force JN to put family first and not run for mayor.

The council should have a heart to heart talk with the guy and just say no to his staying in office.

Concentrating on his son should be his full time priority.

This is not the first time this happened... It was swept under the carpet to protect our great mayor and his family!(councilman at that time) This man along with anybody else who takes advantage of a child should be locked up for life!!!!!! Lets see what happens this time.I hope justice will be served! This man should have been forced the first time to get the punishment- counseling that he obviously needs maybe there would not have been a 2nd or 3rd time.
