A Lancing man found with a "toxic" level of pain medication in his system when his vehicle crashed head-on into another car, causing mortal injuries to the other driver, faces a Sept. 17 sentencing hearing in Morgan County Criminal Court.

Prosecutor Frank Harvey said Jonathan L. Armes, 26, had a high level of oxycodone in his body at the time of the crash and was charged with vehicular homicide.

Records show the crash that caused fatal injuries to 50-year-old Lancing resident Terry Ledford occurred Jan. 16, 2009, on Old U.S. 27 just outside Wartburg. Armes' 2002 Chevrolet crossed over the centerline and struck Ledford's 1992 Buick Regal, records show. Ledford succumbed to his injuries several days later.

Armes on Tuesday pleaded guilty to reckless vehicular homicide and took a six-year sentence.

"We agreed not to ask that he go to prison and will be asking for jail time," Harvey said. Morgan County Criminal Court Judge E. Eugene Eblen will determine how Armes will serve his sentence.

As part of that sentence, Armes will have to speak once a month to high school students about the dangers of driving while impaired, Harvey said.

johnathan is good person i agree what he did was wrong he made a bad choice as we all have at least once in our lives i know he regrets that choice everyday i think 6 years in jail is sufficient and speaking to teenagers once a mounth is a great idea i just whish others in this county would own up to their crimes that they have committed like he has
