I was there in 1973 and 1974 I came there in December of 73 I was in Highland cottage. I made some new friends some I will never forget some more then others. Otherwise I say it did chance my life for the better because I knew I could not live like that. They tell you when to do anything that you doing in your ordinary daily life. So after I went home I finished school got a job and just retired. Oh and happily married for 20 some years
So for my friends that I met there I hope you are all having a very good life like I am having. John K, Randy W, and Ted from circleville

I was at Fairfield School for Boys from Sept 1968 to June of 1971 as the Social Worker for Bushnell and Highlands Cottages. It wasn't a perfect place but I have many fond memories of the people I worked with as well as the young men I met. It makes me happy to see such nice comments from these gentlemen. My best wishes to all of you.

I worked there during the summer of 1972 in the recreation department for my college internship and lived in the top of the admin. building (4th floor).

Two of the rec guys I worked with were Bill Shook and Mr. Bell.

At first they had me showing films in that old mini-castle and just helping out here and there. Then they gave me the boys in Dixon cottage which was all the fruitcakes and rejects.

lots of fun!

Dixon was bulging with lunatics when I had it. There were also a few boys who had nothing wrong whatsoever but who had no place to go and were sent there because their parents had gotten killed in a car crash, etc., and they had no relatives. They didn't seem to mind because the loonies were very entertaining.

There was a small zoo over the hill behind Dixon and one of the critters was a coyote. One of the Dixon boys used to perch in a second floor window and howl at the thing and it would howl back -- the guy thought he *was* a coyote (or maybe a werewolf) and, in fact, that was his nickname, coyote.

I taught these boys how to play Euchre, Spades, Hearts, and I took them for lots of hikes out towards Riven Rock where they could play in and around the cliff. They also raided the orchard out there where there were lots of good apples on the trees. I also built some really nice horseshoe courts which became very popular with all the boys -- very few had ever played horseshoes before. The Dixon boys weren't all that hot on basketball which all the other boys wanted to play endlessly.

My dad was a teacher at Remington (not sure on the spelling) in the late '60's. His name was Mr. Kuhn and he taught either math or social studies.(Sorry I don't remember which... he was licensed in both.) I am curious if anyone remembers him.

I don't know much about his experiences there, except that I know he kept in touch with a few of the teachers long after he became a counselor at another school.

Strangely, I teach in a juvenile detention center now too.

Unfortunately, my dad died in 2000 from a brain tumor. I recently came across some of the photos of him from the years he was at FSB. He always looked like he was up to something.:-)

I am sorry to hear about your Dad. He was a very nice man and a good teacher. Mr. Parker also died in 2000. I can't remember if your dad went but I am pretty sure he did but one time several of us (10)went on a camping trip to Lake Hope. We all enjoyed each other company at play and at work. It was so nice to work where you enjoyed your job and the people you worked with.
