After the 9pm game on Thursday, a player from the Heat (15-18 year old division) walked up to and physically threatened one of the 2 referees that worked the game. He got up in the official's face and stated that he would "whip his a$$". This happened in front of about 30 people in the middle of the gym, including both coaches and the league president was there as well.

This is absolutely pathetic and rediculous. This league is supposed to be fun, but when some of these kids start to thug it up, it really gives the GCYBL a black eye. Hopefully the issue will be addressed by the league board.

It all really boils down to these players and coaches piss and moan about the officiating. The coach of the kid that did this cried and complained the entire game about the officiating. It then rubbed off to his players who, by games end, were all complaining to the officials.

Why are 18 year olds playing youth basketball anyway. 18 year olds are adults.

Parental Responsibility? If I were in a game with the coach whining and moaning such as that, my now deceased father would have pulled me out of the game early on.

And if I were the one up in the referee's face, I would have been banned completely and not just suspended and it would not be left up to the coaches or referees or the league. And my age would have made no difference as long as I lived in his house. Thanks Dad.

It's just a matter of time until an all out brawl is going to take place. The 15-18 age group is a pretty tough group to control...that is why most youth/rec leagues don't even have these age groups.

The sad thing is that the guy who is over the league won't do anything about it...he'll just laugh and bury his head in the sand and when something like this happens again, he'll just smile and chuckle...shrug his shoulders and say "I can't believe this happened".

The 15-18 age group is nothing more than a glorified "open gym" with no structure or policing. The kids who come out there with chips on their shoulder, acting like fools tend to ruin things for the group of kids who actually are there to just have fun.

Agreed! If you can't make the high school team at that age maybe you just need to get a job. Youth league should be for little kids!

totally disagree with you. They are still kids until they graduate. The parents should have jerked his hind end off the court and took a belt to him. No sence in punishing everyone for one half raised brat who thinks he is an adult!!!!! He should be kicked off the team for good!!!

His coach was standing right there after the game when he was up in the referees face. I believe his parents were right there in the stands and saw the whole thing happen.

It rely reflects on his coach though. The coach was whining and complaining to the refs the entire game. The officiating was bad, but it was bad for both teams. At one point late in the game, a Heat player was called for a technical foul and one of the other Heat players was whining and complaining to the ref, even going as far as waking down into the foul lane between technical free throws. Bottom line is that the Heat players were just following suit from the behavior they saw from their coach.

I was there and saw the whole thing. The kid acted like a punk and doesn't need 2 b in the league anymore. If this kid pulls a stunt like this again, the cops should b called. Or maybe someone should put something on Facebook. I agree with an earlier post that said there's probably going 2 b a huge fight break out b 4 the season is over. If this would have happened in a high school game, the kid would have been suspended from the team or kicked off the team and the coach would've probably faced some disciplin too...most of these kids play because they want 2 have fun...others act like hoodlums...
This league could be in serious trouble if the person in charge doesn't handle this problem...especially if this crazy kid does this again or does something worse!!!!

Well, some of the biggest punks in the league are the ones who couldn't cut it on the high school team. Didn't want to put in the work and cried to mommy and daddy when they were not getting to play. They show up in the youth league and think they r gonna dominate and act like little babies when things don't go their way. Well, they way I see it is that there is a reason you couldn't cut it for the high school team and that sticks out like a site thumb in the youth league...#yourajokerclown

Anybody who behaves like that should be immediately escorted from the gym and banned from playing or even showing up to games.

I disagree about the kids in the league. Maybe they don't like playing school sports since most of their time growing up was spent playing daddy ball with other kids. If rec takes up some time of these kids it will be time spent not out doing things they shouldnt. Especially since Garrard county offers so many activites for the youth to do...smh

Honestly all the youth leagues ive found here in gc are a joke. Just thing for parents to put their kids in to relive their days of not being anything. Like that coach neff ive never seen a bigger loser and joke. He screams and throws things like spoiled kid he did this in baseball i do not want my kid around such ignorance. What does that teach kids? That's y the gcybl is about done and more parents took their kids to the upward league which is equally stupid.

The league is what it is. It could really be something nice, but most of the people running the show do everything half a$$ed. They let coaches act rediculous, they have some really sorry officials who have no business working any basketball games at all...not to mention the behavior of some of the kids in the league is horrible. And to top it all off, we're charged $2.00 to watch.
