Is it true that the Garrard News has fired Brenda Powers?

Nope, the news hasn't fired anyone. The news reported that the city council has asked Powers to resign. She is an elected official, she cannot be fired. My understanding is that without her resignation, the council will have to begin impeachment proceedings against her.

Another option is a recall petition but the same people that ignored the fact she misappropriated funds from community educations so she could take exotic trips would be asked to sign the petition.

We heard how "nice a person" she is, but aren't many of the people in jails and prison nice people too?

For everyone's information there is no recall in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The state legislature has never enacted recall legislation. In addition impeachment is not an option either. The only way a mayor can be removed from office is if he/she is convicted of a felony offense, at which time he/she would be forced to automatically resign...

The people of Lancaster did this to themselves. Local voters love amiable simpletons and self serving political carpetbaggers.

That is a good point. A long time ago Lancaster had a Mayor that was arrested in Danville on a DUI charge. Did the local newspaper call for him to step down? HMMMMMMMMMMMM!

She was voted by the people yet city council is acting in best interest of them selves. They forget the people voted them in. Most of what they are saying about her pertains to them and Brenda not agreeing. If they want her out they need to look a themselves also cause they caused some of the charges by not getting along with her. Maybe we as a city should get rid of the ones in city council too.

I've known Brenda for yrs and she is as honest as they come . She trust everyone til they they show that they can't be . She does lots of things to help people out of her pocket and on her own time that most people never hear about cause she doesn't want praise she help from the heart. If she has not done some things according to protocol then fine ! Handle it and move on! Anyone that tells you that any political office or government whether it b on a city , state or national level does everything strictly by the book is full of shit! Come on people ! It's easy for the council to team up or just not vote at all . Go back and look at the minutes and c any single councilman that hasnt folded when put in the hot seat. Mrs powers hasnt done that . She has stood up for what she believed was right regardless of who it pissed off. The my friends doesn't happen very often anymore! So before you start talking and pointing stop and ask yourself could you do better? Not likely with out being a yes man! God we have enough of them already!!!!!

Brenda is a good christain woman and i like her alot. But she is like poor old ej hasty a good person but bad for the job.Just like Mr HASTY she is way over her head. She should do the right thing and step down because it is just going to be worst for her the longer it goes. Her first mistake was the mess with the police chef. All she had to do was wait for a few months and let the Lamb retire with full bebefits and like he told her he he was going to do.If she did that then they would have gladly giving weston the job.It is all not her fault but she just is not a leader. The past mayor might nbot have been the best people person in the world but he was a good mayor. He had to do alot of things that needed to be done for a long time.Mayor Moss was a great mayor in his day and is a great man but he stay in office way to long also.Time to get some new blood in there.

Escape goats? What are they? My neighbor had goats that got out all the time, but he said they were Nubians. What do you call them after they are back in their pasture?

It's official Brenda Powers has categorically denied "each and every unsubstantiated accusation and allegation of willful neglect of duties, misconduct and incapacity".

However in the next sentence she acknowledges that she is "still learning about the duties and responsibilities of Mayor and may have made some mistakes along the way". How can one deny and say the allegations are unsubstantiated by admitting they made "some mistakes"?

She even admitted the job was way over her head by "strongly recommending that the City Council create a full-time position of City Administrator with a degree in Public Administration to help the Council and mayor run the City effectively and efficiently".

If she needs to hire someone to do her job, why do the citizens of Lancaster need Brenda Powers?

Technically you are right but there were only six running last election so they were going to get in whether anyone voted for them or not assuming they voted for themselves. That is part of the problem. Apathy, no one wants the job. It will be different this time there will be choices with 12 or 13 folks running.
