The truth

United States

Overall the board does a great job, the biggest problem with Garrard sports in general is fundamentals. The coaches are all volunteers and most of them, not all don't have a clue but are willing to give their time. These kids are at the mercy of whoever is willing to sit on a bench and make a line up out, or starting five. All of you who have done that for these kids is appreciated a great deal for volunteering. This filters into middle school and eventually when they get to high school these kids are behind. Then it

takes a good two years to teach them

fundamentals that they should have been. taught already. Makes it tough to be competitive when this happens year after year , it's all about taking a couple of kids and trying to win by one or two points at the little league level rather than teaching all of them simple fundamentals.

I agree about the GC rec board and I hate this place! We transplnted here to get out of the rat race of the bigger cities only to find out when you are not from this area you are not welcome. I believe I know who wrote this original post and I know exactly what they are talking about. This year's all star team was a collection of kids whose parents were coaches. Some were very good and well deserving, but others were mediocre at best. The problem with small town sports is the lack of accountablility! Everyone knows everyone else and it's difficult to not favor friends when there are no conseqences to your actions. As far as All-Stars are concerned, the truly fair way to pick would be by stats- period. Why we chose by "coach votes" when these coaches have their own children, neighbors, friends and other relative on their tems just proves that the board is in favor of nepotism. There are descent members on the board making terrible decisions. There is no where else in the county to play ball and so parents continue to accept the board behavior. I have been through soccer, football, baseball and basketball through the rec league and find that baseball is the most corrupt sport. I know exactly who garrardcountyparent is refering to in regards to refs. He is (thank goodness) no longer in the league. We have a lot of bad calls but I have seen worse in other leagues (which doesn't excuse what happens here). I think that this poor little county is trying to function on a minimal economy and things like education, sports and fire/pd are just left to simmer on the back burner. If they don't let some businesses in this county they will continue to be backward. Its a trickle down effect. These are things you don't know about until you are here.
I would only hope that things improve. I want this to be a positive experience for all the kids in this county!

Oh good grief. Politicking and favoritism goes on everywhere. I played youth sports in a large city and favoritism was rampant there as well. Certain coaches' kids and their friends were favored over more talented kids. It's just a fact of life that stinks, but is not limited to GC or other small towns. Heck it even goes on in big time college athletics. Sean Sutton? Saul Smith? I agree this type of stuff is unfair when it happens, but singling out GC is silly.

Are you from GC Johnny? I would assume not bcuz wow it is bad. I left GC for this reason. It is in the schools, the health dept, the court house. The worst thing of this is what it teaches our children. Like I said I got out of GC and I am glad that I did.

I totally agree, there is a serious issue with the sports programs in the county. They aren't even able to do well since it's all about a name and not about making the team the best and teaching the kids ball. I just can't wait until my child can play ball at his private school.

All of you parents that are going on and on about your child playing sports. Oh my gosh, if you all would only show this kind of excitement with their grades and studying habits! Just think which is by far more important. Sports or School? And if you said Sports, then your priorities as parents are VERY messed up. So how about you pathetic parents get off the computer now and go help your kid study and learn. Knowledge is power, not who wins what game and who's coaching GAMES. Yes games are fun, but whoever started this whole thread has obviously lost sight of the forest.

Sorry to offend all you sports fanatics but it is the truth...

If I were you I would speak to the president of the board about unfairness. If your issue is within reason then I would go to the judge exec. next, these parents who pay to play but feel unjustified because little Johnny doesn't get to play....well my answer is spend more time in the yard. Practice make a better athlete not paying their dues and expecting them to play. Take a look at your kid on the field or the court and ask yourself are they really a athlete (with ability, and agility) or are they a just a teammate trying to get better for the next season. Not all kids devolp abilities at a early age, just because Johnny stopped a ball 2-3-4-6 times doesn't make an athlete. The skills he or she will learn at a early age is a part of the skills that will make them a great athlete later on.

No, he should not have been on the allstars team. He needs to spend the time being tutored in academics so that he will be able to formulate a proper sentence. It is painfully obvious you are not able to teach him. How humiliating for him that you even posted such drivel.

Thank goodness he "niver stroke out", since it would be very sad for such a young kid to have a stroke. And what, pray tell, is "couch pitch"? Does he pitch from the sofa?

Garrard County little league sports are a joke coming from other areas of the state and being an All State State Champion athlete myself. Don is the Tyrant and what goes on at this level of sports is a terrible injustice to the youth of this county. The entire board needs scrapped and started fresh. I will volunteer and I will not run a for profit organization like they do now I will do it for the youth of the area!

I'm sick and tired of this league and will not be putting my kid's in baseball this year in this county. I see kid's playing with talent and instead of recognition of being rewarded on a All Star team they get left behind because someone know's so and so. And to top it off they don't learn anything instead of coaching they are on the phone or talking. I will be taking my children to the Jessamine league where if you want to play coach baseball you have to get some kind of training. And if you want to get on All Star's you have to put your name in and have the stats to back it up. Good Luck to anyone trying to get anywhere in Garrard County.
