if this is the same lady who worked the sale at central kentucky animal sale Saturday night, she handled the food with the same bare hand that she took money with, continually. Money carries more germs than anything I know.

I bought one meal there and won't go back. I got a chicken sandwich, it was burnt. And didn't look too clean the past few times I went in, floor never swept and kids running back and forth from the kitchen. I din't see gloves when they were in the back cooking either. Poor James went into business with those people, he needs to think about a new crew.

I was told this lady who had a restaurant in town would be cooking and selling concessions at the animal sale. I had no idea where her restaurant was but she was wearing a jacket or hoodie with Coal Bucket Cafe on the back. I will never eat at the sales or in that restaurant. That is just filthy.

Well, anyone handling food, especially bare handed, knows to wash your hands prior to handling food, and NEVER handle money with out washing your hands again before going back to the food. It has nothing to do with the food itself, it's what they're passing around from the money to the food and so forth.( I even told her that she needed someone else handling the money but she just ignored me. Wonder if she'd listen to the Health Department.

they'd just over look it at the Health Dept. things are so bad they are not gonna shut anyone's doors down there in Lancaster. Money says it all. All the courthouse people go there, they ain't gonna do anything. Where are you from???

We ate there today and I don't really think we'll go back. The food was just average, maybe less in my opinion. The people were nice but there are better biscuits and gravy in the county :) I like their concept of promoting coal and coal mining but we just weren't impressed with the food. And there was an odd smell to the place that kinda turned my stomach as soon as we walked in. I don't know what it was but it wasn't food of any sort.

...There are two or three reasons why someone disses a business,a disgruntled current or former employee...nearby restaurants who are feeling the pinch of having a competitor who can offer better service/food or it's someone who has a beef to grind with the owner, operator or landlord.
There are very few restaurants that allow smoking,
so "im out" must eat out very little or you eat at the same place all the time.
...I have eaten at the Coal Bucket several times,
I never smelled anything bad, the food was good, the service was good, the coffee was good.
The one thing I did notice that made the Coal Bucket different from other restaurants in the county...I did not see one roach crawling up the wall or on my table or crawling around in the ladies bathroom.:)

BettyBoop, Truly, I wasn't really dissing the place, just noting my observations. I don't know what the smell was....it kinda smelled like something kinda acidic smelling. It didn't stop us from going ahead and ordering. We didn't think the food was repulsive or anything, just not anything off the charts great. I hope they make it, really I do. I am none of the "reasons" you mentioned in your post. We're not native Garrard countians and actually know very few people here, nor have we ever worked in food service. We are just a couple who really enjoy our weekend breakfasts eating out :)

We'd love to see it make it too! There was a nice candle sitting there but it was unlit. Ranchgal1, you make some valid observations too

Bluebell, I just thought about something, the odor you smelled may have been the lanterns they had on the tables.
A wax warmer would be a nice idea, but in my opinion an open flame from a candle could be a disaster waiting to happen.
I know these guys want to make this work, maybe they could put up a suggestion box for customers so they could tell them the likes or dislikes about the place. I am sure they will take heed to suggestions as long as they are feasible.

You are such a butthole. Nothing anyone can say or do will change your pessimistic attitude about this business.
You want to see the bad. You want to see the negative. You want to see the gloom and doom. You delight in others mistakes so you can feel good about putting them down.
There are always excuses, Cindy, even for your nasty attitude. It is who you are. Your glass will always be half empty. The sun will always shine brighter somewhere else. You are just a sour grapes negative person.
The Coal Bucket will continue to improve on customer satisfaction, they will be fine as a business.
