Who should it be? An outsider or a current LISD Administrator? I would love to see South Principal, Mr. Torbert. What are your thoughts?

I agree i think Mr. Torbert is an amazing man and would do great as a superintendent. My child currently goes 2 south but i plan on transferring her 2 another school when she gets 2 3rd grade i hear how bad it is there and im afraid 2 send her there seeing how nothings getting taken care of in these other schools

It's very difficult for Tolbert to be selected if he didn't show interest in the position, he has to apply first, right?? He didn't... Maybe his self-confidence is down because of the poor sports program he ran at LISD, afterall his football records don't exactly scream "WINNER". I am sure he is a nice guy, great person.
Our last hometown Supt, Keith Bryant did a fine job, I think Davis ran it to the ground. Maybe a hometown person is what we need again.

Should have rallied behind him to apply, maybe he would have got it.

It's my understanding Torbert did apply and went through the search firm process. As for his coaching, he squeezed all the blood he could from turnip he was given. He is a very respected coach around the area.

Well sir, I don't think your understanding means squat. He didn't apply, have you spoken with him? I am sure he would have made a fine Supt. Fact is,, he didnt put himself in the lineup. Nobody said he wasn't respected as a coach. His football records are what aren't respected. Other sport activities have fared well, some even made playoffs. He just doesn't have what it takes to motivate. The farmer tending to the turnips had very little talent in working the land and yielding a good crop. He wasn't given just one turnip. Had plenty of time and opportunity. I am sensing people are becoming unsettled with a Hispanic as a possible new Supt?

This was brought to my attention today, I had no idea. First, if it is John Ramos, I will be excited for Lamesa ISD and for the opportunities Mr. Ramos will bring our students and staff. He is an exceptional man and educator, not to mention an outstanding hire by our Board! Second, it does not matter that I applied, a great selection has been made. Third, I love my job and staff at South and I am very excited about what we are doing. As far as "coaching and being able to motivate", I really dont give much thought to what people post behind an alias on forums like this. Please let it be and everone rally around Mr. Ramos and make a difference in the lives of our kids in Lamesa!

Silver was fronted out on another thread. You stated that you don't live in Lamesa, but you sure know quite a bit about local school business AND local oilfield business. Could that be because your wife is the principal at North Elementary and you work in the oilfield? Lol I think you protest to much and too loudly about not being a certain person in Lamesa ... Coach Torbert has won well over 100 games as assistant/Head Coach. Every place he coached went to the playoffs in football, except Lamesa. In fact even with his record at Lamesa(who hasn't had a winning season since 2000) he still has almost 60 wins as a Head Coach. His 2010 team had the most wins since 2000 (4-6) and should have been 7- 3 or 8-2.He coached me in college when he was OC at ENMU and is a very close friend of mine.He is one of the reasons I coach today. He knew what he was getting into at Lamesa but took the job anyway. He is much more concerned abou influencing young men's lives than wins. Silver you have shown your ignorance, next time get your facts straight so you dont look like an idiot in public. If he couldn't win in Lamesa, I'm not sure anyone can!

Look Coach Torbert is a great coach and a great man I used to be one of his players from 2008-2012 and to be honest hes made me the man I am today. He did give off alot of motavation and he was a great coach but it was us players who didnt care much about anything and to busy getting into trouble so if anything is to blame on the loses its on us. I just want to say thank you coach

I am glad Ramos is going to be our next Supt. and unless you have worked with all these persons for years and know them, you know nothing about who is qualified or not. Who can do the better job, aims to be seen. One's personal background has nothing to do with their work ethics. i wish him loads of prayers.
hoping for better

the fact is that we need to be involved more as parents if we want to see change help your kids with their homework and spend more time supporting them then out partying everyday or getting high yes it is because it doesnt matter who the sup is if you dont put the effort through out the year and when test results come at the end of the year you get upset your kids didnt do well
