What needs to be done to introudce lamesa to have school uniforms. I have two kids and every year it gets more expensive to buy school clothes and supplies. I believe it would benefit us single parents to bring it up to the school board to assign uniforms. Does anyone think it would pass and why has it not passed in the past?

Cuz the parents always argue freedom to express themselves. N well they deserve the rite to b their selves. But I think wit the way the past years have gone n the the way they r so picky it is best

I think the kids could express themselves more in there school work rather than worried about who's wearing what brand of clothing.

That's right 'penny pinched mama'. Who wants to be all dressed up in this dusty little town, anyway.
Leave the dressy clothes for highly professional people like lawyers , doctors, and landowners.
Let the regular people dress simple, after all, we don't impress anyone.

That's why you make a dress code and limit the length and what they can where.

Dress code pants or knee high shorts and tee shirts all single color. That way boys wont have there hands up the girls skirts and kids not fussing about others clothing. Itll limit all that boob and leg showing from these teens. And more focus on school.

We are not a catholic nor a private school for the kids to be forced to wear uniforms. It was bad enough when they enforced the rule of hair to the collar for boys and clean shave. What did that do or is going to accomplish? What kids will be smarter and be better ahh no. Lamesa just wants to try to look like other schools and try to catch up to their level but maybe it's not the kids they need to be working on its the teachers and staff. It does not matter whether the girls are covered up from head to toe there is still going to be teen pregnancies sad to say. Let's be real as parents and adults. Its what values and morals the teens have instilled in them boys and girls. So for those who think uniforms will prevent premarital sex their just hoping. For those who are for uniforms to save money well Sorry but I like shopping for my kids especially my daughter. Single parents should not have any more kids if they can't afford to dress them. I know that maybe at one point you were married and things just didn't work out. But I think kids will totally be unhappy and do worse in school if you take away their right to be themselves besides I think they would all look silly wearing the same thing as others and everyday. Wish we could get some feedback on this from the kids themselves.

Well, Pink I personally would of taken your post more seriously if you had not put down other parents about having more than one child. I like shopping for my kids too but personally somethings that I pay for that are expensive I would rather my children wear it some place other than school. Pink, you also stated that you wanted to hear what the children thought, and I have to say that I personally think that, THAT is the reason why their are issues. While some parents are trying to raise children with upstanding morals, their are other parents that let their children make their own decisions without teaching them morals to go along with it. This is not a qustion of how children would feel or how many children people should have, this is just a thought brought up for parents that DO have more than one child and WANT to give their children everything. Lets face it, things are not cheap anymore and children need computers, want phones, and everything else, but where do we as parents draw the line of buying and giving without children learning the value of anything. I, along with my husband, were brought up working for everything we wanted. Our kids want things and we try to provide but at a cost. Chores and other duties need to be preformed for extra money, because as much as we want to give our CHILDREN the world, we do not want them to think it is easy for them to receive things without working for them. Wearing uniforms to school is no different than working at a grocery store or office having to wear certain clothing. And TEENAGERS that I see working at these stores do not complain, especially when they receive their pay checks. So you see, if every where else in this town you have to be in a form of uniform, what is wrong with wanting our children to be valued for what they can do, not what they wear!!

Well parent so your saying because the school has a dress code kids won't turn out to be gangsters and such? If that's what you think then you are in lala land. Sorry to disappoint you but I have always been involved in my kids school activities. I have more than one child glad to say they are off in college and the others are in gifted and talented. So with that said I think I did a hell of a job raising mine. O and one more thing to you they don't have any kids yet. So school to them was more important than premarital sex. To another parent I know things are expensive and ya me and mine think like you and your husband in the aspect that the kids have to do something to earn what they want. I understand that at work everyone wears the same but it's different than it would be in school. Just because they are kids it doesn't mean they should not have a say in some things. Like this issue they have to be happy and content in their lives I think to be able to concentrate and do well. I know kids would not like uniforms they would be miserable and some even drop out if they were forced to wear uniforms. Just ask your own kids about this issue. I was not on here to put any parent down just staying facts based upon the other posts. Exactly let's value our children on what they can do wearing what they feel comfortable in uniform or not right ?

Well you said it! Once they start working they may HAVE to wear uniforms! But for now just be a parent and let them dress like a kid in their style to school because changing it to uniform is not going to make them smarter sorry! They pay attention if they want too! They will graduate if they have the will too do it! Or perhaps a PARENT to push them!! You are not worried about how they are dressed...you are worried about spending too much money. Sooooo buy cheap clothes!! Your problem isn't ours or our kids problem!

Well said. My point exactly! Wow parent with all the blah blahs you seem to be acting like a kid.Lets not worry about uniforms because it's never going to happen. Let's just oversee that out children are doing right in every aspect and be there no matter what.

I attend Lamesa High School and all these rules that the school enforces is ridiculous. The guys wear jackets EVERYDAY just so they won't have to tuck their shirts in, which looks worse than wearing an untucked shirt. Since girls can't wear leggings, they wear skin tight jeans. We're teenagers. We're stubborn. And we'll always find a way around rules. So thrusting a pair of knee-high socks and a polo shirt at us will only cause more of a rebellion. And as for the "thugs, drug dealers & trouble makers", you can only change the appearance of a person, but you can't change their personality or actions. Let the kids that want to make an effort, dress to impress. And the ones that don't, let them be. Plus the cost of providing uniforms for students will more than likely be taken out of our athletic & extracurricular activity funds, thus depriving us of our full potential to represent our school in a formal, well-prepared manner.
