I ,as a Canadian ,like the majority of Canadians, are mourning the death of your police officers, It was March 03,2005 that we lost 4 RCMP officers in Mayerthorpe, Alberta and I am sure that a lot of your police officers were here for their memorial as well.
As a citizen who benefits so greatly from the existance of men and women who are protecting us, let me say, You will be so greatly missed, not just you as a group of 4 but your as a group of protectors, just as we have here in Canada. You all deserve the utmost respect but unfortunately, not all kids are raised that way today. Remember when any police officer was "Sir" to all of us. In deepest sympathy and respect for all of you and your families and fellow officers. "Well Done, while you were here!! Audrey Murphy , Bedford, Nova Scotia

The 4 RCMP were probably ON DUTY when they were killed. For all intents and purposes, since the four Washington cops were off duty, they may as well been killed in a tavern drinking beer and getting away with drinking driving like so many cops in the US do.

In the US, police are not legally obligated to protect individuals, unless a special duty is owed. In the US, police are members of the executive branch of government and as such, execute the will of the state.

Finally, if police in the US were charged with the responsibility of protecting individuals, then these officers should be cited for negligence and malfeasance for not being able to protect their own selves, much less anyone else. If the criminal system broke down in regards to the death of these officers, then thank goodness it wasn't civilians that got killed.
