On May 2nd, 2010 I lost my Parish, my job at the rectory and three of the best friends anyone could ask for. Now my pastor is displaced and my two dear friends and I find ourselves out of work. I feel like everything has been ripped away from me. I understand why these churches had to be closed I just can not comprehend the cold hearted way in which it was done. All of our calls and letters went unanswered by the Bishop, no explanation whatsoever was given to us. May God forgive his heartless ways.

Don't be fooled again. You are already a good person -- churches just want to take the credit for it.

If we remain diligent some day we may witness the last catholic church close forever! These criminals should be in prison and their property confiscated. They are a criminal organization and should NEVER be allowed to operate in this country again!

When you realize that the catholic diocese operates as a business, you will realize that the closures are not personal, but a business decision. When businesses have a loss the money has to come from somewhere, they can't just operate at a loss. Wait, when did God want faith to become profit and loss?

It makes perfect sense to close a building that is in disrepair and leave open just the opposite and force all the parishioners to rejoin another parish, a new one with a new name, in a modern, newer building with adequate amenities. Oh wait that did not happen.

Time to talk to God.

There will be more and more elderly people. That are going to be watching the early Sunday A M Mass on television. These people used to be able to walk to ST. James. But now there isn't a Catholic Church in walking distance for them. And without the Community Circulator. St Lukes on Bunts & Clifton, being the nearest to ST.James area. Would be out of the question for many. This is a very sad day for many in Lakewood !

St.James has shown the love of Jesus to the community in so many ways. We have served a community meals for over 11 years, given Christmas gifts to over 400 needy children each year, provided award winning daycare, held monthly collections for the Lakewood Christian Service Center; and helped countless indivduals and families through our St. Vicent de Paul society. Now we continue to pray that that our Vatican appeal will reverse the Bishop's decision and we will reopen to once again to serve the community.

Once again the Catholic Church has failed us. The have covered up for the pedophile priest and it cost hundreds of millions of dollars. That money could have been spent helping the poor or keeping the churches open. The church has millions and millions of dollars in jewels, art and property that they could sell and keep all these churches open. It's about power and their control over us.

Anymore the Catholic church is no better then a cult. Anyone who belongs to organized religion is in a cult, like it or not. Worship God in your home and stop spending all this money in a collection plate. Donate it to a good charity and not a religious one. I will never give a dime to the Catholic Church again. You don't need a church to worship God, it's only a crutch for you to lean on. Be strong and do it at home.

they're closing because all of the money that is needed to keep these churches up and running is going towards the defense fund for the molesting priests. everyone from the pope on down has lied for these molesters and paid off victims so they wouldn't speak about the heinous acts that were committed against them as very young children.

so stop your crying. all the money you put in the basket each week is gone; the well is dry. catholics are the biggest hypocrites on the planet.

It is more than a building. It is your faith, your love for God, love for your family and friends. It is your comfort zone. It is knowing that when you die you are buried from a place where people actually do know you. Yes, some churches had to be closed, but this bishop knows nothing about our community. He knows nothing about the demographs. All he had to do was drive around the city and see the distance he has put between the people and their God. Most people walk to their local church. This is now out of the question for many, many people. Than in winter forget it. This bishop is an idiot. The Lord wanted people to gather in his name. It is sad that we can not do that now without getting in a car instead of using our legs.

All this bishop had to do was take the recommendation of the groups that were assigned for the clusters. Yes people would have still been sad , but a least they would have a reason for why their church was chosen to close. Just as Lenin did so did Lennon. No heart ,no feelings and no explanations. Just how are all these small parishes going to absorb all the extra people. More sense to close the smaller churches and merge into the larger churches. Much easier to sell also. Plus at the same time you are preserving the replicas of beautiful European churches. I really think people need an explanation to have closer. Thanks for nothing Lennon.

This is a sad day for me being an alumni of St. James in the 60's. Why are all these church's closing? Are we becoming a non-God fearing country? Are we afraid to rejoice inour Lord in his house? Our country needs God now more than ever!

Your first line showed great misunderstanding of human development. The rest of your post was whiny nonsense and not worth addressing.

Your churches are closing because they have been discovered to be nothing more than havens for criminals. Good riddance! The catholic church should be destroyed, as it is nothing more than a criminal organization and has been so for 2000 years. It preys on the gullible and those weak of mind.

So what.Any god no matter what god a person chooses to worship can be worshiped anywhere. It's just a building that costs money anyways. There are more important things in life to put money into than into a building.Homeless and underprivledged families can use that money more than an overdecorated building.Besides, no mortal knows what race any god like figures are.People worship so many different gods no one knows who's right any way.Whether your catholic, satanist, budhist, hind u,etc.,etc., it DOES NOT MATTER WHERE OR WHAT ONE WORSHIPS,just as long as one believes in what they are worshipping!!!

Don't worry everyone...It's okay that these churches are closing. Remember: Being in a church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Oh, and here's an idea to turn that space into something useful for the community. Lakewood could really use some FREE community parking for downtown Lakewood!
