As a newcomer to the area, I have no relationship to the Detroit Theatre. However, I read with interest and sympathy those letters from longer-term residents of Lakewood and the West Side lamenting the loss of what is for them a cultural icon.

You want to preserve what is quite possibly the ugliest building in the city? I'll choose progress over nostalgia, thank you. The Detroit Theater is a dump, get over it.
