Ours (in North Olmsted) was out for about an hour and a half. We just got it back a few minutes ago, so hopefully the rest of the affected areas will be fixed soon!

"A large power outage has darkened homes all around Cleveland's west side."

Fairview Park, Rocky River, North Olmsted and Lakewood are not Cleveland's West Side, they're Cleveland's west side suburbs.

North Olmsted's power came back on at about 11:30 pm. It went out at about 10:00 pm.

I hope all the people whose power is still out has theirs on soon! Thankfully I just got mine back. Lets all hope nothing dangerous (like a death) caused this power outage.

Honey...sooner or later Cleveland will be empty and we will absorb the land into our cities. Welcome to Cleveland.

Typical idiot. They may not be red lights, but they are 4 way stops then. Bet you just blew right through them. Too bad a cop didn't catch you.

Took a little to understand your mumbling - they do give you a break on the bills. You didn't have to pay for electricity you didn't use during the outage. Always want something for nothing.

Why don't they have underground utilities? Yeah, the transformers would still be above ground, but alot less wires would blow down or get pulled down by branches. We pay alot every month for maint. on the wires.(they never do any) use that money to start burying the wires. Missoure has alot of underground utilities. Works great.

"Rocky River had more than 10,000 homes without power alone"

Thats because that is all we have if that. All of Rocky River was out last night.
Though I can't complain because I live by the lake and the stars were beautiful.

Many of these areas can't, or don't, have underground utlities for several reasons, not least of which is their ability to maintain them. Besides, I've worked in areas where a little roadwork means someone cut through the power lines again. There's really no perfect solution there.

I will say I have to deal with a number panicky people when these things happen, so it would be nice to have answers to give them.

I was annoyed to find how little coverage there was about this, as widespread as it was. Those of us stuck in the middle of it were scrounging for any bit of news on what we were facing this time. The only news I had was that some major problem at a substation meant we could be without power for days. Waking people up for news reports gave me the news that it was barely a footnote on the news, barely a mention of it at all except to say the power was out and there should be more news tomorrow. The number of outages we've seen around here hasn't given us much faith of avoiding another few days of twiddling thumbs waiting to get on with our lives.

Wrong again baby. Just didn't have to wait at four way stops for people like you, sitting and picking your nose and then picking your teeth.

You don't wait anywhere for people like me. You just run your mouth. I guess I should contact my policeman friend in NO and tell him to keep an eye out for you on your way to your security guard job. Troll.
