I think these days our society is being censored a little too much as is.

School is a place where rules should be followed. Freedom of speech ! Dumb A's. This is High School. Do you have freedom of speech at your workplace? Get the BIG picture......

i think their actions were completely appropriate. it's not an issue of censorship here, its a matter of removing distracting material. the painting will still be displayed and won't have any black bars or anything over the picture. this is a rediculous article.

This is not about stepping on rights to free expression... this is high school. There are limits to what you can express. Even if you are 18, doing this work in high school is inappropriate, and should definitely not be tolerated.

Wait a couple of months for the summer, or a year for college. It's called patience and restraint. Everyone in that school will be exposed to that kind of art soon enough. The halls of a high school are simply not the place for it.

It's a human body. It's not porn. It's not violent. What's the problem?

It's really sad to see so many people calling this painting okay for high school...we are moving closer and closer to an anything goes society...slow down don't stop before turning on red...if there is room between cars on the road for safety don't leave it, fill it in...if there is someone coming up behind you don't hold the door for them, if there is someone hurting, pass them by don't get involved, if something is illegal and you like it...just do it...This is the attitude of the many these days wereas it used to be the few...It's just sad=(

The most famous paintings in the world -- very "religious" based -- from the Renaissance -- all have nudes. "The Creation" by Michelanglo. And speaking of the Master, has anyone ever seen "David"?? As in the Biblical HERO.
I point out the male nudes to contrast and compare.
I heartily agree. I am a Christian and what many of you might consider a "right-winger", but I don't see anything wrong with this painting. Let's keep this in context. It's a drawing of the human form, not porn. When did the human body become something dirty?

Please, enlighten us further. What other unrelated societal ills would you compare with this adult student's art? This is very fascinating...no, really...please do go on. Personally I think the nude figure represents the obesity problem facing the nation and how sometimes people like to cut in line at the McDonald's. The words symbolize the tendency for people to be on their cell phones while they are driving and those bluetooth thingies that make you think for a second someone is talking to you until you see that they have it in their ear.

It's all relative...we ignore right and wrong based on our own preferences and you just added more to the list. We are becoming a impolite society that keeps moving in the wrong direction. This art is not acceptable in public schools...and the things you and I listed shouldn't be acceptable either. It's just sad how callous we are becoming.

I won't call this censorship because her painting wasn't disqualified from the show, and is still eligible for a chance at a scholarship.

It was removed during school hours when minor children would be around to see it. I can already hear the 15 year old boys yelling "Hey LOOK guys! BOOBIES!" I believe the school had every right to choose not to display the painting while the students were in classes.

What I saw of the paintning on the article page looked nice. I'm not a 15 year old boy giggling at boobs, so I can be objective.

The exhibit caused disruption. The student did not lose a scholarship. She has every right to seek an appropriate adult place for her painting to be viewed. When these same students are in class rooms are they allowed to use curse words in debate or questioning? Is this appropriate behavior for a prep school "educational" facility?
Rules and limits are necessary to maintain order. The school has every right to enforce the rules. In any case involved parents are treasures in this day and age.
Reposting just for you...

Censorship is slippery slope and at this point in time this country is heading for a big tree at the bottom of that hill!

I understand what your saying but where do you draw that line in the learning process? The lowest common denominator? Maybe the problem is parents not preparing their children for this harsh world. If you expect the schools to teach them everything then you have failed as a parent!

Also... this was about an art project not about language in a debate. The political correctness and lowest common denominator garbage is ruining this country. Be careful what you say or do you might offend someone! When did we become a country of such thin skinned people, who don't parent properly, can't take responsibilty for anything we do, and last but not least use a little common sense?
