The officer did exactly as he should have. If the dog had bitten someone or attacked another family pet how would the story read?? Thank you officer Lowther.

Funny how the picture seems to be covered up on the video right before he tasers the dog. It's not even a pit-bull, so why are they reporting that it is?

Oh, and by the way - my cat used to growl menacingly when in a cage...might want to taser it too!

The officer did exactly the RIGHT thing. This is what tasers are meant for. It spared a life, was able to control a situation that could have escalated into a potentially life threatening incident! GOOD JOB!

they should have shot him dead!!!!! No one needs to own a pit bull. Anyone who owns a pet must keep control of them or else suffer the results. Hope that they destroy that thing, it's not a pet!!!!!!

i think its fuuny too that they dont show what happens before the dog gets tasored. i bet he wasn't acting aggressive at all. if a dog goes running after somebody they dont just change their mind and stop

Those dogs are a menace to society and need to be banned. I would have shot it myself if I had seen it. No leash no life if you are growlin at me.

The idiot who judged me as clueless has never had to deal with a dog (pit bull) that was trying to attack them. try it sometime and get back to me, I bet you change your mind...

I own a pit bull and have had others in the past. It is how you raise any dog...not just pits. My dogs have always been GREAT FAMILY pets. This made me sick to watch. Animal control is trained to deal with dogs and I feel the cop took this to far. If the dog was going to bite someone it would have. Pit bulls get a bad name due to those that train them wrong...so it's not the type of dog that people need to look at it's the owner.

While I don't think the officer went too far with the taser, the dog is obviously NOT a "pit bull." This story is just another biased bad representation of the breed, and the tone comes off as mocking when it is mentioned the owner says his dog is a boxer. The dog IS a pet-quality boxer -- anyone who has spent time around any bully breeds could tell you that.

I am a Police officer and have dealt with dogs that have been on the loose and the first thing we need to do is protect ourselves and others around the area. Not only was this the less lethal way of dealing with this dog ....... but this was the best way with no one getting hurt including the dog. Lethal force is legal in this situation.

I think lakwood police department should teach their officers the difference between a pitbull and a boxer that dog was clearly a boxer!!!!!!

this dog is not a pit bull. it appears to be a boxer...big difference. the dog does seem to be aggressive and i feel the officer acted accordingly. i do feel that police officers should be educated about the differences between pit bulls and boxers, etc. Mr. Keir should not receive a fine for a having a banned breed, but a fine for a dog off leash seems fair and he should take better care of his dog.

FIRST ALLOW ME TO SAY THAT THE DOG IS NOT A PITBULL IT IS A AMERICAN BULL DOG SO THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW SMART LAKEWOOD POLICE ARE AND THERE WAS NO REASON TO TASE THE DOG THEY SHOULD HAVE GAVE THE DOG A BONE
