<quoted text> Launa : When you mentioned your granddaughter I need to respond. You love your dog and give him/her all the care which is good. Dogs like humane can change in a second for unknown reasons. Are you Prepared to defend your grand d. in a second if there is a attack , the screams, the cries of excruciating pain, the emergency hospital picked. Are you prepare to test your grand d. to demonstrate a point! What are you going to do ! times up ! Please take some precautions, use a muzzle and strong lease when out. keeping your dog safe means everyone else is safe. please do not bring the dog up to strangers or other dogs in fear, and demand they pet him/her. Consider going to your nearest shelter web/phone and request photos of pit damage reports on kids and adults. Again if you love your dog, then protect it by taking precautions.
i would always protect my granddaughter, i fear more that she would be hit by a car, or kidnapped, before i worry about the dog attacking her, they hang out together and she feeds the dog her treats and has never been mean the my granddaughter, there is alot of love in our home, when i go to the bank etc. i take the dog with me.

Is it really necessary to kill all 4 other pit bulls.. What is it, guilt by association?? And this is coming from someone who was attacked by 2 pit bulls at the age of 13, I suffered some pretty bad injuries from multiple bites. I still love Pit Bulls, it's the owner not the dog that is the problem.
It's like putting a roommate on death row for something his mate did. Does not make sense to me.
If "it's the owner not the dog that is the problem", how can you then turn around and say you don't understand why they're euthanizing the other dogs? With all due respect, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that...ALL FIVE OF THESE DOGS ALL HAVE THE SAME "PROBLEM OWNER". These dogs were never trained NOT to attack and were raised in such a way that, yes, they should unquestionably be euthanized.

<quoted text> A tv news mentioned the owner gave permission to take all the dogs away, the owner (looked like elder polite lady, there is no way she can handle pits, she not strong enough) The catcher looked bitten but not a hamburger mauling. Diane Whipple was killed and bled to death by "BANE" (50-100 bites ?) in S.F. yrs ago.
I think that dog "Bane" was a Presa Canario (another favorite pet of Jerry Springer guests).

<quoted text> Growing up we have a pit as a pet too. Got him from a puppy and treated him as a member of the family. He was loving and gentle and we never imagined he would hurt a fly. Then one day in a quiet moment while watching TV as a family, with no warning, he turned around and bit my sister in the face (then in her early teens). She required plastic surgery. Pit bulls are vicious creatures. We can try to supress their violent tendencies but they will always be a pit bull. Having a pit as a pet is playing with fire.
I TOTALLY agree with this. All breeds have certain ingrained characteristics that have been bred into them for hundreds of years. Go to any dog park and you can see it first hand: border collies attepting to herd the other dogs, huskies pulling like sled dogs at the end of their leashes, dachshunds (who were bred to hunt badgers) barking deeply and digging holes, etc.
Let's face it: pit bulls were originally bred to fight other dogs or to bait bulls and no matter how much you coddle and coo to them and how many hours you spend at PetsMart obedience school, they're always going to be what they are: Pit Bulls.

I NEVER HEARD OF A GERMAN SHEPHARD FIGHT, OR GREAT DANE FIGHT, ONLY PIT BULL FIGHT...I WONDER WHY THAT IS???..AND OF COURSE THE "ANNUAL" MAULINGS OF THE PIT BULL BREED UPON CHILDREN OR ELDERLY..SOME PEOPLE SAY ITS THE OWNERS FAULT, SOME SAY IT THE DOGS..."WHO CARES WHOS FAULT IT IS, ONCE YOUR BEING MAULED"..(THIS BREED OF DOG IS UNPREDICTABLE)..
You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I go to the Redondo Beach Dog Park at least 3-4 times a week and every single time, without exception, there is a fight at the "Big Dog Park"...and each and every time, who do you think is involved? Yep, a Pit Bull...WITHOUT EXCEPTION. After having witnessed at least 100+ of these attacks, I have to think that there's got to be more to these incidents than that every single golden retriever, irish setter and labradoodle in the South Bay has a vendetta against Pit Bulls. C'mon, people, do the math! What's the common denominator here? Ummm, could it be...hmmm...they're all PIT BULLS?

re: "The four other pit bulls on the property will be euthanized."

Why blame the dogs for an irresponsible owner? Deal with the owner's behavior first, then the dogs will follow. What's next, euthanizing kids because they have irresponsible parents?

doglover: The owner had nothing to do with this, she complied with (as far as the TV news) all instructions. The dog officer was there for the reason only , There were too many dogs for a residential property . His actions cost 5 dogs lives, There did not have to be even one. I hope she gets two 'JACK RUSSELLS' OR 'FRENCH MINI BULL DOGS" to fill her void. I hope I never see a headline 'JACK RUSSELL MAULES CONTROL OFFICER "

Why were the other dogs, the ones who did not attack the officer, euthanized?
Why did the owner not get the dogs for the Animal Control Officer and turn the leashed animals over to the Officer? This makes no sense to have an officer invading a dogs territory when the owner should have been assisting with this capture and surrender. This appears to be a matter of irresponsible owner and poor Officer judgment and now unfortunate animals.

Media Bias
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2007/08/prweb54 ...
Highly recommend 2 books for people interested in more than Newspaper headlines.
Pit Bull Placebo and Fatal Dog Attacks by Karen Delise.
http://www.fataldogattacks.com/

That Pit bull placebo book looks very interesting. I gonna purchase it and I thank you for your mature response. So many people go on rants about killing or irradicating this common dog bread after something unfortunate happens that you rarely get actuall information from these type of blogs. The media salivating for dog incidents is a very good point. I was told by a coworker that German Sheppard's had the same stigma twenty years ago and no one even knew that a Pit Bull could injure someone as there were several on tv in Buster Brown adds (I think those are kids shoes) and a black and white show called Little Rascle that was still on sindication. Ive never seen neither but after the Mike Vick trial I have been curious about this breed.
Nevertheless, this is a fact:
If I based my desicions on how the media portrays people. Then I wouldnt have any ethnic friends and my cultural knowledge would suffer for it.
Still learning if the same goes for animals(the ones that dont walk upright).

German Sheppard's Attack old lady and her doggie!
Dog attack leaves residents in fear
By Ashley Ratcliff, Peninsula News

RPV — One resident’s attempt at being a good Samaritan went horribly awry when two roaming dogs attacked her pet and then turned on her.
Maria Lyons, a Rancho Palos Verdes resident, demonstrates on a stuffed animal how her dog, Greta, was attacked by two German shepherds last week. As you can see on her right forearm, Lyons sustained about 16 puncture wounds during the attack, when she tried to fend off the two animals.
Lyons said finding help after the attack was difficult.

? Why would you bash someone for loving a dog, or for that matter tell her what she should and should not be doing with it.
