Whether there was evidence of her mental state in a previous post is now a moot point. It doesn't matter anymore. If there truly was mental issues, the children should have been removed from the home. This says to me that her addiction to shopping online for things she can't afford wasn't a mental instability, just something she consumed herself with, unfortunately Cecilia paid the ultimate price.

Its a shame that this happens, but there are some people who should not attempt to raise children. I feel sorry for the loss of the child, and the loss of a sibling, but I cannot summon alot of sympathy for the mother.

Big Laker, the hunter who blasted his kid was both drinking and high when he did so. So I don't think this is an apples-to-apples comparison. She's obviously in need of some mental health care herself so in that sense it's a tragedy that she can't take care of her kids.
At least she admitted her faults and pled guilty. But being sorry won't be enough to bring her daughter back. I predict a light sentence with a long rehab stint.
Maybe not a Honey Crisp to McIntosh comparison, but close enough. Two parents that through their own negligent killed their kids.

The differences? One was addicted to drugs and the other was addicted to shopping. Both put their own self-interests above their kids.

The only difference as I see it is that because the hunter used a gun and the mother used a bathtub, there is more outrage against the hunter.

If you watch both of these cases closely, I am willing to bet that the hunter's sentence is much harsher than the mother's.

Unfortunately, the kids are the real losers in both cases.

If both neighbors and family thought she was mentally ill and/or incompetent, why was she left alone to care for five children???

Mentally ill or not the mother deserves the time for her crime. Someone also needs to take a serious look at the family besides the mother as well.

Is it really a safe environment if the other family knows the mother is mentally ill but still leaves her alone with the children??

This is as tragic as the hunter who shot his son. Should we ban computers or bathtubs?
How about we just outlaw stupidity instead. Anyone who has an IQ under 130, you're out of here.
I actually think that reading your post knocked my IQ under 130. That is to say I feel dumber for having read it.

This case is actually closer to the father who ran over his kid. Also the hunter who killed his son will get a harsher penalty. He committed more crimes even if the end result was the same.

If you are unwilling, do not understand, or just can't stop shopping long enough to take care of, feed, supervise, mother, and yes, do everything in to keep them ALIVE! STOP HAVING CHILDREN !!!!!

Really - what does Clinton have to do with this? Get over it. And who said society demands punishment? You a society of 1.
Bill Clinton is well known for many things. One of them is his compassion. Where he oftens states, "I feel your pain." This statement is directed to those that feel the mother is punished enough just because she feels terrible. Get it now. It has nothing to do with Clinton and his escapades. You get over it. I certainly did, years ago. As to the society of one. Read the comments and see how many are in your world. She shopped till her kid dropped. Society does and will punish this pathetic parent.

You must not remember the initial story that described the mom's serious mental health issues. She apparently spent a lot of her time "shopping" for things she couldn't afford and had shoeboxes full of items she had cut out of ads and intended to buy. There was evidence of her mental health issues before this incident.
I claim no expertise....but it seems to me that anyone who takes a life, other than as an Act of War...has a Mental Health issue or two.

In fact prisons are filled with men who acted out when they werent the most "stable" emotionaly.

We dont excuse it for men who kill...her mental state should be irrelevant here.

In fact I do not often hear the Mental Health issue when stories of most men who kill are published....Hummm.

...if someone who knew her had spoken up or helped, this might not have happened. The punishment won't fix what happened. Very sad. Asking for this woman's head won't fix this one.

Holy crap Hillary Clinton. You make me sick. Bleeding heart liberals such as yourself will always be a waste to this country. She was negligent. Period, cant argue with that.

Birth control should be in the water and people need to prove they aren't idiots in order to get the antidote and have children. The family that was concerned about her mental health and didn't do anything are just as culpable.

Her husband is more guilty then she is as far as I am concerned. He knew she was mentally ill and did NOTHING to get his wife help long before Cece was allowed to drown. In stead he cut all ties to both sides of the family and shut her in and she got worse over time.

Of course she had mental issues. Any normal mother would have left the children alone in the house while she ran out to buy shoes.
