Nice to see there are two sets of laws, one for the police, and one set for everyone else. You can't even tell me that a private citizen would have gotten off of this, there is no way this man should be a deputy in Dakota county or anywhere else. This is a mistake, and a huge slap in the face for the family of the victim.

I hope the family sues Dakota County out of business, like for at least 500 million dollars.
SUE the crap out of the fascist pigs!
Dakota County should be a ghost county when all is said and done, the lawsuit should clean it out so no one would ever dare move there again for fear of having to pay part of the judgment for the next 100 years. Fine the county $1 million/day until they pay up.

The criminals always get off easy with things such as assault and even murder due to liberal justice. This deputy sounds like he was doing his job and screwed up. Accidents are accidents....look at the guy who dragged the girl for a mile in WSP and he is already out of jail...

Nice guy... Killing a kitty, even if it was an accident is "Careless Tossing"

I hope justice prevails, and The Kitty life taker gets at least 40 hours of Community Service and at least a $380.00 Fine!!

People need to be held accountable for their choices. Even if his "Intent" wasnt to kill the kitty, we as a society place great value on the kitty's life.

When he made the choice to "Turn Left" and toss the Kitty down to the floor, and didnt look to see that there was a wall where he was tossing the Kitty down, he showed total disregard for anyone but himself resulting in the death of one of Gods Creations.

We, as a Society need to send a message with our court sentence so that any so "careless" next time will be detered by thoughts of the severe punisment that awaits them! "we value Kitty life and those that take Kitty life will be held Accountable"!!!

Shoot...sorry, this was posted at wrong section, this is my comment on the Cat Tosser, wrong species....sorry.
I got a Little rattled this AM. First I read about the Justice we demanded fromm the guy who killed the motorcyclist. Then to further traumatize me, I read where some guy accidently killed a Kitty too!!

Well I am sure that the courts will be "Just", in both cases. I mean , kitty's are people too. Certainly the "tossers" "Intent" wasnt to kill!
He just made a bad choice.

[Hennepin County prosecutor Pat Diamond called the incident "a tragedy," but he said the sentence was not more or less severe because a deputy was involved in the crime.]

I applaud the County government Prosecutor for equal treatment of this County government Sheriff's Deputy in this County government Court.

That motorcyclist was probably driving too fast anyways. He should have stopped for the squad car. Either way, that Deputy's $380 fine and forty hours of community service to the County government should be more than enough to provide for the victim's restitution and retribution.

If this situation was reversed, and the deputy had been off duty riding the motorcycle, the charge would have been reckless driving and criminal vehicular homicide against the citizen. The deputies would have all come to court for arraignment to push the bail unusually high, the DA would have pushed for maximum penalties, and the average citizen would have probably gotten a 5 year sentence, even if it had been a first offense with nothing else on their driving record. Treat cops who do bad things the same as everyone else.

Wow, a careless driving instead of reckless? He got off on that charge. Reckless is potentially putting property or life in danger, kind of sounds like reckless driving to me. With reckless driving, the charge of criminal vehicular homicide would have been a slam dunk, and he would have probably served 6 months to a year. I think the attorney general's office should look into this.

We all wonder what makes decisions in a court room. My son was in an accident, that he doesn't remember. he accepts the responsibility. He wasn't drinking he wasn't doing drugs! He had never been arrested, finger printed. He was charged with gross negligent vehicular homicide. He is 19 yrs old. It was recomended by the presentance investigator that he should have probation and treatment. My son sufferes from a brain injury from the accident. He is serving 4 yrs in prison. I guess he should have been a cop.

Cops just enforce the laws, they really don't apply to them.

By the way, I am sorry for the sentence your son received. I think community service and 5 years probation would have been a good sentence here, if its good enough for a Dakota County deputy......and if not, the deputy should get 4 years too. Fair is fair........prison will do your son no good, and in the end, the victim's family won't feel any better when he gets out, whats done is done, serving time cannot replace their loss.

I thank you for your compassion. If you haven't been a part of the system you have no idea of how screwed up it is. It is also a shame that people are placed in a facility(prison) by the original charges against a person. If the judge drops all buy 1 felony as it happened here. You are placed in the system using all felony charges, this first time offender is a level 4. This is 4 out of 5 being the very worse. My heart goes out to the families that grieve. My son doesn't understand why god let him live. Everyone suffers! This policeman was a man with experience, he of all people should be an example. I believe they protect there own.

Of course they protect thier own! And the TC media helps them. Haven't you notice how quickly supposed "accident" stories involving officers move to the back pages, or are not commented on at all?
This negligent boob doesn't have the common sense to check his mirror before cutting across traffic lanes, yet we trust this IQ challenged person to carry a gun and badge, and tell US what's right?
Such is the nature of young cops, self important, big guns, little ****.

I feel your pain. This is the justice system in MN. You have been through the prosecutors machine. Just be thankful they didn't come after you too. They will destroy everyone involved with the defendant given the chance. The law enforcement mentality today is that we are all potential criminals and should be treated as such. Then they just hand anything they come up with to the county attorney to finish the travesty. The system is broken and cannot be repaired. MN doesn't allow "honest" mistakes, only the law enforcement and county employees are allowed to make "honest" mistakes. And yes it is obvious they will protect their own no matter the cost.
