It's a sorry state of affairs when a newspaper uses television station reports for its news. Does the Pioneer Press no longer have its own reporters? Eventually there will be only one source for all news, and then we'll really be screwed.

This is the most info I have found thus far. After seeing a pic of the car, I'm not surprised no one survived.

LAKEVILLE, Minn.-- Three people are dead and another injured following a head-on crash in Lakeville Saturday night.

The accident happened just before 7 p.m. on County Road 50 near Ipava Avenue. A car and pickup truck were involved in the crash.

Authorities say three people in the car died at the scene. The driver of the pickup was injured and taken to a local hospital. That person's condition hasn't been released.

The State Patrol spent hours on the scene reconstructing the accident.

Authorities say drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash.

The names of the victims haven't been released.

Don't forget the lack of a proof reader.

You know whats crazy, if PP waited until all the important details came out, i.e. what caused the crash, victims names, etc. most of you would be up in arms that they took so long to report anything at all. They put a snippet out here so people are aware of what has happened. Then add to it as they get more details. I mean do you people have nothing better to do than when you see a story first published come out here and nitpick about the lack of details and proof reading? Because, I have nothing better to do than to come out here and give you hell about it!

C'mon Bob abd Jim..........when YOU see developing news, who do YOU call, IF ANYONE???????? The newspapers??????? I DON'T THINK SO. YOU would call the TV stations as they, as anyone would be able to surmise, have the ability to get the news on the air immediately. Good thing the STRIB didn't report it. They'd have blamed it on Pawlenty and Global Warming. I think it's time to grieve for the victims, regardless of who was at fault. Funny though, that AGAIN, a Pick-Up truck was involved. Ever notice a PUT that wasn't speeding, tailgaiting or passing you? I haven't in most cases. I may be wrong here but I'm betting not.....we shall see...if I am, I will eat crow.

I'm not quite sure where you were going with this post but the Strib did report this story and also referred to the what a trooper told WCCO.

Second, I drive a pick up truck and do not speed or tailgate - and the biggest problem I experienced these past few days with the bad weather was with folks driving cars, not trucks. Every person that cut me off was driving a car.

Third, this was a head-on crash, the fact that it was a pickup is irrelevant. The victims in the car didn't stand a chance. The state patrol has yet to issue a report on this so it is possible they have no idea what happened.

Either way, three folks are dead. That's what matters.

The road in that area wasn't slippery, so I'm guessing the cause was someone was trying to pass someone but couldn't get back into their lane in time or someone was texting.

I was right on that road last night. I had to get past the police barracades to get to my friends house. We didn't hear who it was either. But, the cops had his house blocked off for HOURS!

I was a witness to this crash. If we had been seconds earlier, it could have been my family. The car that was mangled and 3 people died was in the correct lane, the red pickup was on the wrong side of the road! If alcohol wasn't involved, than I'm sure a cell phone or texting could have been involved. Good Samaritans stopped to help and you just knew that it was NOT ok when there was not one sound from the vehicle. The image, smell, silence ... will forever be engrained in me. All I could do was start to pray. I live blocks from this and travel this road every day. Somebody is at fault for this and I hope they can tell us more soon as well as the names of the victims. We drove through the site before there was even a police car on the scene. I am so sorry this happened.

This was a very unfortunate event, people lost their lives here. My heart goes out to the families and friends. Regardless of who is to blame, it happened, and we should be praying for the families instead of finding someone to blame. For the people that are bitching about something so stupid as who got the news first or the typos, you shouldn't be posting on here. Write them a letter if thats how you feel or get a life. This is for the people to comment on the story, not who the hell wrote it!
