After all... if you're not a criminal or terroist you have nothing to worry about! Yep, just like if you're not a smoker you have nothing to worry about.... DUH! That's what I'm talking about. People accept losing one freedom at a time... Until they are ALL gone!

Most of the people that think that the government is overstepping its bounds are just as appalled by the illegal wiretaps. Most of us see it as more whittling away of our rights. It is time for the government to drastically downsize and go back to what the founding fathers intended.

It seems to me that most of those posting on this board are attaking the DFL for intruding on their lives. Thus, I get the feeling that it's only government intrusion when the Dems do it. However, it's for security and to prevent crime when Repblicans do it and thus, it's OK. The true libertarians complain about smoking bans and indefinate detention of American citizens. Republicans only complain about smoking bans.

The true libertarians complain about smoking bans and indefinate detention of American citizens. Republicans only complain about smoking bans. The topic at hand is the smoking bans. However, it's all BS. And it's going to continue a little here, a little there until we have nothing left.... Until the time that we are mindless zombies, get up, go to work, come home, go to bed, repeat. You won't be able to do anything at all because big brother will always be watching and if you happen to use the wrong word in everyday conversation, even if not in a bad context, you will be put in a secret prison, accused of treason, jailed for life or possibly even executed. You won't get a trial because you will wind up classified as a domestic combatant. The problem is alot of this stuff is on the federal level, harder to fight. But fighting things like the smoking ban on a local level starts sending a message when we start winning. Once we start winning, we can pick up speed and momentum and ride it to D.C. to tackle the more complex issues.

If it were about health they would ban the sale of cigarettes in MN, but they love the revenue that comes from the taxes and health impact fees on the cancer sticks. THe above is actually coming from a non-smoker.. When the Governemnt banned the foie gras, I remained silent; I was not a hoi paloi chicago Restaraunteur. When they banned the trans fats, I remained silent; I was not a New York City KFC owner. When they came for the Smoking in bars and restaraunts, I did not speak out; I was not a smoker. When they came for the SUV owners, I remained silent; I wasn't a SUV owner. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.

the answer here is obvious. the court needs to rule that smoking in performances must be done with fake prop cigarettes, not with real ones. or the legislature could modify the law as such. either way it would put an end to this nonsense.

Besides pray to AL Gore and put mercury in my homes with your stupid florecent compact light bulbs. you also need to stop eating cheeseburgers, infidel. ABC Wants You to Fight Global Warming One Cheeseburger at a Time http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2008... This is something you might expect to hear at a PETA rally, but instead it was ABC’s May 13 “World News with Charles Gibson” telling you to curb your beef consumption to lower greenhouse gas emissions. “You are staring into the face of one thing scientists say you can do to fight climate change,” ABC correspondent Dan Harris said as the face of a cow filled the screen.“Leave this cow alone and eat less beef. According to the United Nations, 18 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions comes from sending beef and dairy products to your kitchen table.”

I thought blackmail was bribing somebody to break the law, not bribing someone to obey the law.

This is the work of your non profits that accept "designer grants" of public funds then haul the money in the back door of the peoples house and purchase The 2004 and 2007 Freedom to Breathe Act .
Then with the arrogance of a hezbolla bomber post the expenditures "to influence legislation" on the state campaign finance expenditure boards web site. Even worse it is now totally legal for activists and non profit friends of the legislature to accept millions in taxpayer funds grant money and directly lobby for even more money and regulations against other citizens.
Remember our lessons in civics that explained tyranny? Representative government is the first victim and demogogery like the FTBA is the victor and a handful of public funded anti smoking fanatics and activists have circumvented representative government. Who needs a representative legislature any more?

So much for having faith in the legal system. I won't set foot in a Scott County establishment. Not one more cent of mine will go into that county. "Temporary injunction granted against bar's 'theater nights'" http://www.startribune.com/local/18978744.htm...

Hmmm, they already have a NO SMOKING sign, so I'll just leave that at your favorite bar. Like I said, I have full confidence in our legal system, and also full confidence that things are trending away from letting the addicts fire 'em up wherever they please. How you doin?
