I personally struggled with addiction for over 5 years. I am 26 years old and have been clean for 1066 days today. If anyone can tell you the torment of an addict it would be me. It is not easy and even today I still crave the ''buzz.'' If I can give some advice it would be: enduring support from family and self-integrity is key. I feel that if the media has finally decided to take interest in the addiction problem in eastern ky. then maybe it is possible to get the funding needed to open numerous treatment facilties in this area. WE all need to pull together and try to get help for todays youth because one day they will be the leaders of this great country. There is hope. I am a sucess story of the power of drug rehabilitation and it CAN be done.

I hope you will never need any kind of pain pill. Things happen, accidents ect, completely out of your control, If you get busted up in an accident that requires long term rehab and part of the treatment is pain meds will you decline? I have a friend who was hurt badly in an industrial accident, woke up in I.C.U. on Morphine drip and it progressed from there. Before you know it hes hooked, physically hooked to a combination of pain meds for over 6 months. This was in a controlled enviornment. Now he is dealing with getting off meds, and hes losing the fight. Should I go in and kill him off for the good of the civilized world? My friend wasn't out trying to find a fix but it sure as heck found him. He freely admits he can't be trusted all he sees is that damned drug! His friends will be his friends even when it doesn't seem that way to him and try to help him recover from his recovery.

Let him go through some therapy including rehab.

Give him a chance or two.

If he fails after that, then kill him.

As far as needed pain meds, I refuse to take any higher end pain meds such as morphine. When I broke my arm in 4 places 2 years ago I refused all but tylenol 3. Maybe my pain threshold is a bit steeper then most. You cannot give these pillheads the rest of their lives to get clean.

Please, someone tell me how long we should treat them before we give up on them?

What about the serial killers in the world who kill just 7 or 8 people. Usually they are sick and need some sort of help. Yet we exectue the vast number of them.

Now, how many people are murdered by a killer every year comapared to how many are killed by pills? Both directly and indirectly?

I would just like someone elses plan for a large (think tens of thousands) group of people hooked on pain medications that are unwilling to get off of them by themselves.

You have no idea what you are talking about. We do NOT execture the vast number of serial killers, if they are determined insane they usually are not executed. Charles Manson is still living and still talking nonsense.

The pain of breaking an arm is no comparison to nerve pain from various illness like MS or back injury etc. I am not suggesting that the broken arm is not painful but chronic pain is psychologically and physically debilitating. Emotional and mental illness is also quite devastating and is the main reason people become addicted to drugs and alcohol, to numb emotional pain.

From your comments I gather you are a social darwinist, ie Conservative Republican who must take up for the corporations that push these pills on the masses and who want to rid the earth of money draining poor people. That's the real reason you make these ridiculous comments, is it not? Because a good capitalist does what is best for the bottom line, all amoral and such with no mercy, at least none past two years.

PS-I am actually neither right or left, I believe what I believe regardless of where those beliefs fall. Maybe if the rest of America would do the same our country wouldn't be in such a state its in now.

I think Sick is saying your argument is kinda lessened by a flawed religious stance. I would love to know how many people the local Christians pray for, get healed from drugs or what not every day. Because according to Topix, prayer changes everything, yet the entire Eastern Kentucky area is overwhelmed with drugs. With all the praying going on, you would think the drugs would disappear.

But they haven't.

alright look i also know the 2 girls that are bein talked about here.. and they both were like sisters to me.. yea i will admit drugs are bad for you.. i know from experience i have done more than alot of people..and those 2 girls actually helped me get off of them and one actually helped me from overdosing.. its not fun to lose someone that you love to that.. i have lost a brother, a cousin, and 14 other friends due to drugs within the last 4 years its not a fun thing to go through.. so for all of you out there that think that they was stupid for doin it need to realize.. you have no clue wat it is like and you have no room to talk about any of it.. you try losing abunch of your closest friends and tell me how it feels.. so when u actually do how would you feel if i was to start talkin trash about them.. and sayin that they deserved to die.. i dont think u would like it too well.. so after reading this if any of you have a problem with wat i said.. then step it up to me..

Just as you can say the God equation is irrelevant, I can equally say your amoral stance is irrelevant. I realize you may think that when you just say words that makes reality happen. I know several people very well who prayer and "oooooo" even God, changed their lives and they compeletely stopped drugs and alcohol. Now this has happened more than once, but I am sure you will have a superior answer to tell me why that can't be true. If your amorality is so superior to we crutch laden religious types, you should just say the words and make everyone happy and all will be sunshine and bunnies.

You seem overly scared of hearing anything about God, but most people with self esteem issues love to patronize others and put down their personal beliefs.

Well, I am not scared at all to hear about God. I don't know about Sick but it seems those that believe in the Christian God share your viewpoint. That we as a community should give these people how ever long it takes to get better. But why should I pay for someones court ordered rehab every time they get caught breaking the law? The answer is I shouldn't. I shouldn't have to pay my taxes so that someone on pills can go out and wreck their car and possibly injure or kill mine or someone elses family.

And as far as a superior response, I know many people that have overcame drugs without a single prayer. So it seems to equal out in the end. If people can do it without prayer and they get it done, that is great. Just as if it takes people to use prayer to get it done.

I personally don't care how they do it, even if they have to pray to a moth, as long as it gets it done.

Keep in mind, Hitler placed unfounded blame on Jews,Gypsies and other minorities. This is what led to the Holocaust.

If a large group of people in Germany had been on pills and causing billions in damages and injuries a year, not to mention death (which you cannot put a price on) I doubt history would have him labeled as quite the monster he is. I suggest you go back and read a little more on Nazi Germany. Also, Sick is not too far off. In recent years even several Jewish foundations have admitted that some of the "facts" about the Holocaust may have been slightly exaggerated. I am not saying a horrible thing did not happen, but often times when things such as these occur its often blown out of proportion for many reasons. In this case, probably to garner support for the Jewish communities in Europe. Which is not a bad thing.

And back to the religious argument. I could stand here and quote dozens of wars that were fought over Christianity in the past or the countless lives lost because Christians (more so then any other religion) feel the need to go all around the world and force others to convert from their indigenous beliefs into Christianity. But I won't. I will only point out the fact that its the Christians like you, who like to throw insults (LOL right theres a hypocrite for you) and judge others is one of the reasons I despise them in the first place.(You don't see the Muslims in the area going door to door, nor the pagans,or heathens, only the Christians) Maybe if the local Christians would live their life more like their savior they would have less time to worry about others problems and could clean up their churches before trying to convert more and more to their hypocritical beliefs.

JCM09, I do not know the girls mentioned and anything I said was more towards lastdays then anything. I never like to see lives lost or thrown away in prison do to drugs or any other form of stupidity. I just simply will not raise a child in the environment this area has become.

You can tell who has been burned by the druggies enough to be sick of it and who hasn't had enough punishment yet just by the posts on here.

The ones taking up for the pillheads are the same ones that will be screaming bloody murder when their stuff gets robbed.

It takes much more effort to work and be a good citizen than to be a pillhead that steals all that they can and never holds a job longer than a few months. You have to want to better yourself and most don't.

Indeed not impressed. Most do not want to kick the habit. They are perfectly fine hurting or robbing people to get what they want. If they can sit on their azz all day and do nothing but stay high, then collect their government check we all pay for, then thats good enough for them. Why bother working when the ones out working provide their tax dollars to support their pill habits?

God forbid they work and support themselves.

It's ok people, it's ok to be afraid of the unknown, it's a normal human response. I will not judge the toad or the sick or anyone else who hasn't been inside the heart of an addict. It's easy to stand outside looking in and make remarks based on what we see. But the real truth lies beyond that narrow view of the passerby. I don't judge people for that, how can they know if they haven't been there. Sometimes I wish I still didn't know, life was a lot less painful then.

Knowledge is a powerful tool, I suggest we all get heavily equipped. This is going to be one hell of a ride.
