So the excuse works and the kids get off easy. The DA should be teaching them a lesson so that they can serve as an example for other kids and maybe save a life or two. Typical Lake County DA. Sad and pathetic, misguided and poor leadership.

This is disgusting, but par for the core! The very reason we have such a drug problem!! I knew when this story first broke, that the little darlings would only get a slap on the hand!
The same with the girls that torchered the Guini Pig.

There will never be a contol of the drug problem, unless the users are punished severely. The punishment should put the fear of god in these people!

my guess is that the kids in question have learned their lesson, thankfully without any lasting consequences, throwing the book at them seems like something that's not needed in this case. Eight prescription pills at once is a lot, those kids were very lucky, you need to build-up slow like Limbaugh did if you want to be a serious druggie like 'ol lard-bucket.

They should ban the advertising of prescription drugs on TeeVee. Those ads make those drugs look appealing, when they actually can be quite dangerous.

It is not their hands I care about - in terms of slapping. They should be used as examples to their peers and maybe someone's life will be saved in the future. Throw the book at them, I say, and other kids will live to tell about it.

Phil, get a job man. You sit around all day chatting on these sites and you are becoming worse and worse. I speak for many when I say you need to get off the soap box and get a job or a hobby that is productive and occupies your time.

similar incidents occurred only days before at kelseyville highschool involving prescription drug serequel, a phsychotropic drug commonly used to treat bipolar disorder. one of my childrens friends overdosed. another of thier friends was alledgedly arrested. my children were both offered this drug and declined. I can't imagine how I would feel had my one of my children taken it and overdosed. I have of course told them how proud I am of them. it is frightening to see it happening at these local schools, to our kids! we must be more aware of our teens behavior.

I'd bet the kids didn't learn s#%t! Misdemeanor?! Come on! That's a slap pn the wrist to them , and a soft slap at that. Trust me, you'll be hearing about these kids again, in another unrelated (but related) matter...

Diduknow,

You really ought to stop, the more you spout the more moronic you sound. Yes and spell check would be a nice touch too.

First pills, next they will be sitting in a circle popping hairspray cans to get high! I hope the punishment comes with some probation with drug testing. thats what these kids need....to be monitored! Hello parents.

Parents here is another problem....
Does your house airconditioner need recharging with freon (R22)frequently?
Well the little darlings (children) have been huffing (breathing) the stuff to get high. Sucking it right from the service valve.
At least they can't take it to school.

wow info over load, my turn huh? okay here goes,
PARENTS STOP TRYING TO BE YOUR CHILD'S FRIEND AND BE THERE PARENT. IF THAT MEANS GOING THROUGH THEIR BAGS AND THEIR ROOMS AND SURPRISING THEM AT SCHOOL ON YOUR LUNCH BREAK TO CATCH A GLANCE AT THEIR BEHAVIOR WHEN YOUR NOT AROUND, SO BE IT.FORGET ABOUT PRIVACY, IF YOU WANT IT, EARN IT . GET INVOLVED-MEET FRIENDS,BOY/GIRL FRIENDS, IF YOU DROP THEM OFF FOR A MOVIE HANG AROUND OUTSIDE FOR A MINUTE, IT WON'T KILL, YOU BUT IT JUST MIGHT SAVE THEM.TRUST ME THEY WILL HATE YOU BUT IN 4-6 YEARS WHEN THEY STOP KNOWING EVERYTHING AND HAVE HOPEFULLY STARTED LEARNING SOMETHING, THEY WILL LOVE YOU DEEPER THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE.
T.V. IS NOT THE PROBLEM, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, THEY KNOW WHAT CONSEQUENCES ARE, THEY MAY NOT GRASP THE DEPTH OF CONSEQUENCE BUT THEY KNOW BY NOW THAT WITH EVER ACTION THERE IS A REACTION, THEY START LEARNING THAT IN INFANCY. SO WHAT IF THEY ARE "A AND B PLUS STUDENTS." LAST TIME I CHECKED ANY ONE CAN OVERDOSE THERE IS NO LEVEL OF INTELLIGENCE REQUIRED , IF YOU CAN PUT IT IN YOUR MOUTH AND SWALLOW IT, THAT'S ALL YOU NEED-NOT YOUR GPA.
ANY PARENTS OUT THERE REMEMBER A LITTLE THING CALLED "BABY PROOFING" SAME GOES FOR TEENS,"TEEN-PROOFING " LOCK MEDS, BOOZE,KEYS TO VEHICLE'S NOT IN USE, CLEANING SUPPLIES,HAIR SPRAY,GLUE, PERMANENT MARKERS, WHITE OUT AND OTHER THINGS LIKE THAT CAN BE HUFFED,LOCK THEM UP. IT MIGHT TAKE A LITTLE EXTRA WORK OR IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE INCONVENIENT BUT THAT IS WHY WE ARE PARENTS.AND IF YOU DON'T DO THESE THINGS BECAUSE YOU THINK, IT WON'T HAPPEN TO YOU CHILD,ASK YOURSELF, IF THEY ARE TAKING SOMETHING MAYBE THEY ARE THINKING THE EXACT SAME THING ,"IT WON'T HAPPEN TO ME!"

I think it's really important for parents to have a relationship with their teen and try to help them avoid drugs. My childhood friend died from a drug incident and burying my friend really did change my entire outlook on life.

I started a website dedicated to helping parents better understand their teens so that they can truly be more effective parents. It's important for parents to understand what goes on in the teenage world, to make sure their teen is comfortable talking to them about anything, and to really be vigilant about trying to HELP their teens navigate the dangerous world of teen years.

My blog posting below relates to this article and I think it'd really be a helpful resource for parents to better help their teens avoid drug tragedies like that which my childhood friend died from.

Run the mental health and counseling industry out of the school and prison systems.. It's obvious their bogus diagnoses leads to psychotropic (mind) drugs with "no test" for chemical imbalance and they have medical model. The drug usage lead to instability in personality and to a drug habit.

I believe Be Fair wrapped it up quite well.
Parents, take a hard look at yourselves as Parents. Have you done all that you can or could have within your childs life to safegaurd them from these types of actions? Or are you too busy with your own lives to bother. I dont care what anyone says - it all starts at home!
