I think that some of you people are laboring under a misapprehension. Bail has been set at $50,000, but he has not yet made bail, he is still in custody (or was two minutes ago when I looked at the Sheriff's website. Reasonable bail is a matter of right per the Eighth Amendment to the Federal Constitution. Whether $50,000 is reasonable under the circumstances is an open question I suppose.

Sure hope he doesn't make bail.

we'd simplify our lives a great deal if the justice system would just nail these scourges to society the first time. it would save sooo much money and we'd be rid of common trash mingling with the productive strain. in my opinion there should be no such term as 'repeat sex offender or child molester' and those that have committed crimes such as this should'nt be free to 'repeat' again. tell ya what, i will buy all the bullets it requires to dust off death row RIGHT NOW! i'll even supply a gun. imagine the money saved? incomprehensable i'm afraid. it just sucks to see career dirtbags screwing up the lives of the good and decent because our justice system deemed it necessary to release them. my condolences to those affected by this 'incident', pity to think it was avoidable had our esteemed court system excercised some JUSTICE.

Zino was my friend and I have a hole in my heart that will never be repaired. He was a loving man who cared about everyone. How many business owners do you know that would actually come out to your table to ask you how you are doing and put a smile on your face just because you graced your presents at his establishment. He was my friend and I am going to miss him. The man that did this should not ever get bail. He has been in trouble over and over. Our system just keeps failing all of us that do what is right over and over. When is the hurt going to end for the people that do the right thing. Shame on all of the elected people that we have voted in time and time again to do the right thing. Please for Zino, give your opinion and vote these uncaring, money hungry people out that we voted in to take care of these cituations. Give Zino the respect he desirves. I love you Zino. Rest at peace.

Labor contractor-which vineyard(s) did he work for? Holding the name so long seems a bit odd since they knew who they were looking for-and couldn't find him. Not to blame the vineyard, but protecting businesses/business people in the county is far too common. The Len Gottschalk trials years ago had a news blackout in this county, you had to read the Press Democrat to find out the progress of the trial, and quite a few other instances where potentially embarrassing arrests were handled with kid gloves and blinders. It should be noted, Mitchell was NOT the sheriff then.
He turned him self in because he knew he was being sought-apparently not out of remorse, or to do the right thing, just to minimize his damage. I wonder if he was surprised that he was known, or surprised the case was being pursued and didn't die down. It wasn't a homeless man he hit. I'm sure he was hoping so. His failure to appear and multiple DUI's should make him automatically non-eligible for bail. I wonder what his blood alcohol level was-he was able to avoid THAT extra charge by hiding out for a few days wasn't he?

Failure to appear indicates a flight risk. They deny bail for that, especially if the charges are serious. I wonder if a bailbondsman in the county would be willing to post bail? I wouldn't.

True, but this individual has already proven to be a flight risk! The bail should have been set very high or not offered at all!
Absolutely!! Can the judge spell FLIGHT RISK?

I also note he turned himself in close to midnight. Right before the arrest logs roll over to the next day. Not an accident on that one.

We all know any kind of contractor is sacred in Lake County. Slightly more sacred than God.

Connection with housing or a vineyard and that makes you doubley God sacred.

So lesson learned. Drive DUI- run and then turn yourself in just before midnight when the Sheriff's log rolls over so you aren't on it longer than 5 minutes, and the ETOH and drugs are out of your system BEFORE you "turn yourself in" pretending to be a good citizen.

What a travesty James Walter Nightingale kills Zino leaves the
scene then surrenders when sober and Hedstrom orders Nightingale
to serve the upper term of four years in prison on the felony hit-
and-run charge, with the misdemeanor charges each getting a year
that he was ordered to serve concurrently, although much of that
time was wiped out with time already served and other credits.

Nightingale also has been ordered to pay the Mezoui family more
than $47,000 in restitution, which will be the subject of another
hearing on May 17.

Money can't buy everything.

Hedstrom said the statute allows credit of up to one half of the
sentence for good conduct, meaning Nightingale could be out of
prison in about two years.

Did Rob Brown bail Nightingale out?
