My husband, myself, and almost 18 year old child are planning a possible move to the Lakeland area. We have a lot of questions. We are trying to decide whether we want to rent first or possibly buy. We don't want a lot of land. Have had that are are trying to downsize. We have looked online at a lot of mobile homes in parks that we really are interested in. But they all say 55+. My husband will be 53 this year. I am not quite 50. My child will be living with us for another couple of years because of school, Does anyone live in any of these parks that allow families like us that are looking for that special place that we want to stay. Also, what is the job situation like? Anything that anyone can tell us would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Is it that bad Hillbilly? I know it is different for everyone. We don't want to end up in the same type of area that we are in right now. No jobs. County doesn't want to try to improve and move forward. Seem to be stuck in a rut. Have noticed that more folks from Florida do seem to be moving up into our area lately. Though I can't imagine why.

Yes, I am thinking of moving to the area as well. I have family there and need to re start my life and I'm just curious if its a good area. I know it's all about the company you keep and we are lucky to educated and well employed hard workers, but school system is my concern and how much is rent?? Don't want to buy anything, but a couple miles from beach would be ideal!

You have one for rent? When will it be available? What utilities would I be responsible for? Where I'm from we have alot of small things that I'm sure should be included there but just checking.

It would be available this year I am looking for a lake house in lakeland. As soon as I find a good one I will be renting it out . You would be responsible for electric, cable, Internet. I have 2 storage sheds in the backyard. I will be taking card of the yard . One will be locked with some of my stuff. And second one will be empty for the tenants to store their stuff.

Its been a while since I have been here. I just moved out of the county because it has become to liberal for me. Seems that you can brush the envelope with codes and get away with it. Junk, crap laying around peoples yards making it look like a 3rd world county. They are not supposed to but they do.

Codes made to prevent things like burning what ever they hell a person wants in their yards like it was the boonies making the smoke hard on your health and stinking up the place, you know how hard it is to get that smell out of your clothes and drapes? They are not supposed to. But they do!

You need a permit to build a major structure around or on your home. But they dont do that. They do it anyway.

When you try to up hold your community standards you are the bad guy. And the county seems to only act when its their interests. I moved out last year and I am glad I did.

Good luck! Wonder how you are doing?

I'm from Europe, and I'm thinking about moving to Florida, Lakeland. I'd like to buy some bussiness and stay there. I'm glad I found this forum.
