And as i DO feel for the family of the father...still, I believe , Olive, that you are in the most serious form of denial. As a counselor for patients with addictions, PTSD and grief , I cannot understand, AT ALL, how you can keep making excuses for what happened.Especially since you have had a year to come to terms with the FACTS. That MURDER is a heinous crime...and suicide is the COWARDLY way out of a situation that he was obviously constitutionally incapable of dealing with.Your statements make it seem as though the father was the victim. Wake up, dear. And step into reality. The Gift's had to...and now it's time for you to do the same. Quit blaming gun laws, the courts, and any other pathetic piece of American stautes that you can blame...GUNS do not kill people. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. PERIOD. End of story.

guns do not kill people...a typical, premium, nonsense cliché......
"Apparent accidental shooting by boy kills 10-year-old
A 10-year-old boy was shot in the head - apparently by accident - and fatally wounded by a 'young child' wielding a stolen handgun in a house west of Lake Worth this afternoon, authorities said "(today's Lake Worth News)
and I'm sorry it's an example amoung hundreds, in no other country one can buy guns as easily as in US. Thanks freedom...

Dear Zoe,
my contribution here was in Feb or March, so NOT a year after the facts, but, anyway...thanks for your free consulting session ... but I have my own trick cyclist :-). hopefully, SHE happens to be a real PROFESSIONAL, who would never give such a hasty dignostic on such a thread (what about your rules of ethic ?),
Please, do me a favour : stop your FUTILE arguments, all you do is reinforcing my (european) prejudices... OR behave like the professional you pretend to be.
Regards,
Oli

Zoe,
I knew Sydney briefly as a patient she worked with. I was down in the dumps today and wondered who misses others when they are gone and for some reason I googled her name. I am so sorry you miss your friend. I did get to meet Julian. Actually, he was all she talked about for about a 3 hour appointment where I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her office was full of his photos and drawings, a comfort to anyone trying to get their mind off testing. When I left I felt I had made a friend, one of those nice types that you will always receive glad tidings from. My disease has been under control and I wish I could let her know. I think of her as my guardian angel, I am sure she is watching over you too.

I knew Sydney, we were lovers years ago, long before all this, and just found out yesterday (10/08/09)that this happened.
I loved her deeply, like few women I have ever known, I miss her, and now I will never have the chance to see her again or meet her son.
No one deserves this. When we broke up, I was devastated, but never had the slightest thought to harm her, but her friends painted me as a mean person. How strange that she ended up marrying someone , giving someone else everything I wanted, that really was mean to her. Anyone who does this is sick and evil, sorry for her family and his family, but he deserves no mercy before God, neither for murder nor suicide. To kill a mother and child, despicable, madness of the first order.
Sydney was artistic visually and poetically, lover of great music, enchanting sense of humor. I remember her well, she lives in my heart, no matter how we ended.
Goodbye Sydney, I still miss you.

Stumbled upon this thread, was this man on psychiatric medication that made him violent? There has been talk of that on the news, sometimes meds or sudden withdrawl from meds can make one violent.

About police records/medical secrecy,
I'm Alexander Tomas elder sister as mentionned in a previous comment,I live in France so I know very little about US laws and medical secrecy in your country.I was wondering if medical records are made available to the familly after a violent crime ? I had to implore my dad to send me the "Palm Beach Sheriff's office offense report" he finally received in June 2009(the tradedy happend Jan.2008), I finally was abble to read it 2 weeks ago only. I didn't learn anything new (except a lot of information about the gun!), and there's nothing about my brother's mental health, though he was treated for depression by his family doctor and was seeing a psych...! Does the Police interrogate the praticians ? do they "broke" the medical secrecy ? How could I have information on these aspects knowing my father is not going to help me, as for him this is a closed subject, but not for me. I have a husband, a young daughter, there might important information to bring to our knowledge.
Thanks for your help in advance.

My answer to "Wondering if" did not show for some
reason, there's another attempt :
a prescription for a common SSRI's antidrepressant was found in his car by the Police. My father and I found several prescriptions in his room, for many different molecules in the past 6 months befeore the tragedy, made by the same family doctor. I believe either he never took the medecines long time enough for them to be efficient on his major depression symptoms, or he did take the antidepressent, but instead of helping him while he was struggling with despair they provoked adverse side effects. we' ll never know.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Leo

There's an erratic quality to the day, thanks to the Full Moon in emotional Cancer, combined with a lunar eclipse. Loved ones are likely to behave in ways you hadn't counted on. The only way to cope with this is to be as flexible as possible. Someone might change an arrangement at the eleventh hour so you have to think on your feet, or others may be determined to do their own thing even though it doesn't suit you. Get any arguments out of the way quickly so you can enjoy your New Year's Eve celebrations with a glad heart.
