My thoughts exactly Jill. I hope others learn from this accident, seatbelts were made for a reason and that reason being that they do save lives. I hope that this man and his wife do find some peace in knowing that she will be taken care of the rest of her life.

I guess Jill and Betty M has everything ALL figured out! To blame everything on not wearing seat belts is neive! It is very possible that had they had their seat belts on, it could have made EVERYTHING WORSE! I know it is hard to swallow this theory, but none of us know how deadly crashes without seat belts would have ended if the victims had them on! I am a firm believer in wearing seat belts ALL the time, but to depend on them is ignorant! So rather than critiquing my cousins, how about the next time you get behind the wheel you worry about yourselves and drive defensively so this tragedy doesn't happen to your family or mine. I'm not very close with my cousin, but thinking of what he has gone through (and is going through) makes me think of everything that could happen to any of our families! Don't be so quick to act like you yourself is invincible because there are more bad things that could happen to you or yours these days than any of us ever imagined! You can be careful in everything you do and something can hit YOU/ME we never saw coming! The best thing is to have UNSHAKABLE FAITH IN THE LORD AND KNOW THAT HE WORKS ALL THINGS FOR THE GOOD OF HIS PEOPLE!

Bo:
I know that seatbelts don't save lives all the time but they do a majority of the time. My daughters were in a very serious accident a few years ago, they were teenagers at the time, and a 50 year old man with a car full of relatives pulled out in front of them. The county Sheriff and Florida Highway Patrol officers who responded to the scene said both girls would have been thrown through the windshield if they had not had their seat belts on. As far as worrying about how I am driving, I have driven for 35 years and have only been in one accident and that was from being hit from behind. Again, the people in the vehicle behind our family were not wearing seat belts and their 2 year old son landed up in the back seat of our vehicle. Try explaining that to a 8 and 9 year old as to why others don't feel safety belts are a good idea. Sorry Bo, while I do feel for your cousin, seat belts do save lives and defensive driving, which includes wearing seat belts also saves lives. Sorry, but no matter how much I am attacked I will NEVER change my mind about seat belt use. They saved my children's lives and could have saved the life of a 2 year old.

If you read what I wrote you would see I wasn't trying to change your mind about seat belts! I was merely trying to make you see how judgemental you were being with your comment of, "Why were they not wearing seat belts?"! Does it matter why? NO! What happened can't be changed. I just felt it was rude to post your question without having ALL the facts(besides don't you think that it is a GIVEN that everyone would think that question themselves without your help)! I also believe the longer you go without being in a serious accident (on the road or off) the more apt you are to be in one. So I was simply telling everyone who reads these to be more careful regardless of how THEY feel about seat belts PERIOD

They but they did not have on seat belts and the jury rightfully so reduced the monies.
And wearing seat belts does cut down on injury's.
I just wished we could rewind the hands of time back. And undue the past wreck.

And you right bo bo the more miles anyone drives without an accident makes it more likely then not they will have a vehicle crash.
So drive like your life depends on it.

Im wondering if I could get at least 45 million for my spouse.
Just a thought.

If one of your friends or family undergoes a horrible tragedy, caused by another negligent party, I should be able to find SOMETHING they were doing wrong that possibly made it worse and THROW IT UP IN YOUR FACE.
If the TRAINED Commercial driver had excercised due caution it wouldn't have happened. Besides that, you're just mean. Yes, I believe in seat belt use 100% of the time.
