Does any one know whats going on with Target? Target pulled out because it was taking to long, but are they still going to build? The Marketplace begins construction in October, and I think it's pointless to have a Lowes and Kohls but no Target. Wal-Mart needs more competition so it's not so busy all the time. Or Antioch needs another Wal-Mart.

Target pulled out because of the declining economy, not because it was "taking too long". They also pulled out of numerous other towns where they had planned to build at the same time. It was a dollars and cents issue for them, with lack of faith in the ability of a store in Antioch to be profitable at this time.

The developers are trying to lure them and other tenants into the project by asking the Village to add a 1% sales tax to all sales at Antioch Market Place. This money would ultimately find its way back to the developers as they provide incentives to the stores to open up shop in Antioch Market Place. In essence, what the developers want is a financial incentive to give to the stores without the developer having to give up any of their profit.

Currently, the tax issue is undergoing a feasibility and cost analysis being paid for at the developers expense. When completed, it will be presented to the Village Board for consideration. In the interim, although the Board approved the project long ago, contracts could still not be signed between the developer and their customers because the developers have still not secured approval from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for modifications to 173 that will be required as part of the project. Last I heard was that IDOT approval might occur in July.

Wal Mart long ago stated it is not going to build another store in Antioch - saying there is no reason for them to compete with themselves, but they are going to build another one down 83 in Round Lake, I think at Monaville Road.

I know Target pulled out because of the economy and Home Depot and Wal-Mart also pulled stores out of other towns. It was multiple reasons for Target leaving.

Wal-Mart is building a store at 83 and Moniville to replace its current store on Rollins Rd. It would technically be in Lake Villa. But I still think that the one in Antioch is overcrowded and is far away from people that live off Grass Lake Rd in unincorperated Antioch.

I think Wal-Mart should open up another store either in Antioch or one in Paddock Lake. As the company progresses, they mite see so too. Currently Wal-Mart is looking in our area to build more stores. Waukegan was the first and opened in 2006. Zion is the second and opened this month. Wal-Mart is expanding its Gurnee store into a Supercenter and has plans for stores in Lake Villa, Vernon Hills(replacing existing store) Mundeline, and Lakemoor.

What ,do you have stock in Wal-Mart? They have a plan, screw everything and everyone who get's in their way. Draw a 14 mile ring around every store. They will be done building stores when the rings touch each other. Then and only then will they be done.

When Bob McCarty says declining economy he gets ripped. When Target leaves because they weren't brought into Antioch fast enough it is just because of the declining economy. Which is it.

As for Lowes- Did anybody ever wonder who the realtor was. Personal friend of the former Mayor may be a hint.

Hey look everyone - the hate monger is back!! We all thought you had gone to Nova Scotia with your warped minded buddy from the swamp.

Listen up you little twerp: Nobody is perfect. He made mistakes for sure. But he never tried to swindle this town or take advantage of it for financial reasons. HE DID NOT NEED TO. He already made his fortune through hard work and smart business decisions.

The fact is, and as corroborated by numerous sources including the Daily Herald, Taso Maravelas did more for this town than any other Mayor before or since. You may not have liked his style. You may not have liked that he fired some of your cronies. You might not have liked that he was Greek. But one thing the thinking people in this town did like was the fact that he was a businessman and took the most positive steps he knew to take to fix years of financial and management malaise here.

It is amazing that your pals undid most of what he did in only two years. Black to red with a bloated, overpaid, and underutilized cast of friends and cronies filling key jobs. The inmates again began running the asylum the day he had to leave thanks to clever public opinion manipulation by a guy who stood to gain, and did gain, a $100K a year job the minute he got his pals at the News Sun to help get Taso dumped.

Do you think that is right or in the best interests of this town? Guess what, IT WASN'T.

You have CrAP to dump on Mr. Maravelas? Get it on the table. Facts, names, times. Otherwise, shut your trap. You have nothing to contribute beyond your homophobia, your vile comments, and your lopsided hateful accusations about everyone but yourself and your cast of decrepit good ol boy buddies who have been part of the problem.

Say what you want about Taso. But, remember this, under Taso, Antioch had a future, had money in the coffers. No one is perfect, but compared to the current administration (which has members from previously BAD administrations) he looks like a saint. The only worse politician I can think of is George W Bush.

This administration ran this town to the brink years ago. They fought kicking and screaming while Maravellas gutted the garbage out of the system and forced us to account for all spending. He weeded the employee garden so to speak and reduced payroll. He required Antioch to utilize a new accounting software system to track and trend spending. He tossed out the garbage and was fought at every step by Dopey Larson and her small minded friends. They had to fight him, once he took over, they had no recourse or ability to blow through the cash. Before maravellas, just about anyone could walk into the village hall and write checks for just about anything, with no accounting. That ended the day he took office and the good ole boys didn't like it. Was he a bit odd? Sure. Did he rub some people the wrong way? Absolutley. Did he bring Antioch back into the balck? Without question. have you ever noticed that the people who want and have the ability to do good are perceived and made out to be goof balls by the old regime? Look how they are treating Crosby. Every chance they get, they mock and ridicule him. This guy has the business experience we need and the balls to get the job done. I truely believe the biggest threat to the old way, dragged back to Antioch by our pal Dopey Larson, was that they felt threatened and emasculated in the fact they no longer held control over their private little hobby; running Antioch(into the ground). Look at the people who supported this group. I took a look through the D-2 records of this group and it was surprising to see who supported them; everyone who would have gained from them staying in power. More on this to come.

We have finally reached a tipping point in this town and can not, must not return to the old way ever agin. Larson and hers proved this with the return of red ink on the village books. 2.2 million in the hole? NEVER AGAIN. Your work, strike that, waste here is done Larson, McCarty and Pierce.

Chicago is correct about Crosby. He's hope for Antioch. Get Caulfield out, Dorothy won't rerun, and who is running for mayor? With Hanson as mayor, how is that going to get Antioch back? What's the future of Antioch now?

Dorothy hired a total six.

Taso hired 14 -that is really weeding out the payroll.

800k bond for security and bldg improvements
800K from Utilty tax overcharge
700K from the enterprise fund.
1.2 million over budget as he left office.

Larson Out,McCarty Out,Pierce Out,Caulfield Out. Totally new blood for Antioch. That is the true answer.

Read the posts Joe, everyone here already gave you your answer. No need in lowering yourself with stupidity.

Target is gone from the scene and won't be back until more houses are built; three to five years minimum. Kohle's won't build either as the market needs to correct and prove itself for at least a year to warrent this type of expenditure. Pet Smart is Money Dumb if they think their business will survive a long and drawn out economic slow down. 100% discretionary spending on pets is usually the first thing to go when you can't feed the kids Joe. Lowe's rushed through the project in Gurnee in an attempt to break this market and compete with Home Depot, Menard's isn't even in the picture on this one. Once they built the Gurnee store, the need for Antioch was pushed to the side for several years to come as anyone from Antioch that wants to shop there is just drive the extra few miles, either way, they have the exposure they wanted without the overhead of the store. I posted last year when I predicted the Target deal falling appart that if Target sells clothes, food, prescriptions, household items, automotive oil, televisions, toys and the staples everyone uses every day, what the hell does Kohle's think they're going to do when all they sell is clothes and a few house hold items that no one needs? Exactly how do they think they're going to make money if they come here?

Basics first Joe. The building of these stores was contingant on a certain amount of houses and population within a given area, that fell apart when the housing market crashed and we reached peak credit. Without the houses and the people who live in them Joe, who is going to support stores of this size? Not the people in Antioch, thats for sure. Besides, as the market sinks deeper into the hole we dug for ourselves, how long do you think it will take to climb back out? I would be placing money on ten years and out. As prices spiral upwards due to complete destruction of the dollar, the usual corse of action is a wage spiral to combat this, ie.. things cost more so pay me more. The only problem here is that we live in a FIRE economy,(Finance, Insurance, Real Estate). Ever notice that they only seem to be building banks in this town? A lot of those jobs are going as we speak and our illustrious leaders saw fit to allow the majority of our manufacturing jobs to be shipped over seas and South of the border. Once people start losing their jobs Joe, where will they work. Keep in mind that the majority of financial products (CDO, SIVs etc.) are gone and are not coming back anytime soon. The people that held those high paying jobs are gone and will now find work where Joe? I don't know either. The point is that this project is two years too late and isn't being built any time soon. The project across the street is done as well and would really surprise me if one tractor ever showed up on the property. Antioch must focus on the Walmart and the soon to be vacant outlot buildings. Plans should be started now while they have the time to start fixing the downtown area so when the market shows signs of recovery, they can jump in feet first and not waste months or years in planning the planning stage.

Sorry to be so pesamistic on this one but I call em like I see em. Have a safe Fourth of July.

This board should be looking at downtown and how to get a plan for it. During slow economic times should not a business pick up its advertising to draw more people in to replace those who are missing. Of course the mix of stores needs a look at. Imagine driving through downtown and seeing a t-shirt store(?)with shirts that say F***itall the best medicine or Same SH** different day. I think I would keep on driving- don't you Chicago? Let's get the board to refocus on downtown. That is where any remaining money should be spent. With Larry and Crosby in charge just imagine how we could really invest in a plan to really grow the downtown. I want Condos, stores, the Pittman property developed as a new downtown block that mirrors what we have already. Then we could work on the Antioch Plaza and it' empty stores. Couldn't you see it replaced by a six story apartment Condo Complex. Just think of the business we could capture for our downtown with just a few extra dollars from the village to make it happen.
