lol! The horror! Thank goodness for the non stop news coverage. I love the shots of the "newscasters" positioned on all the Chicago area highways capturing absolutely nothing. What in the world would we do without them notifying us for 2 days straight that there would be precipitation in the area today? That is why I hate watching the news anymore. If there isn't any drama, let's create some! Hunker down people, we might get 3-4 inches of that white stuff. Call your friends and neighbors and get prepared!!!!!!

i remember this one.
Only warning was for 4 inches not 23 inches
schools were open too ( i was in H.S. for those trying to figure out my age.)
In those days we just took it in stride and shoveled ourselves out.
The problem today is not in the reporting but in getting it plowed. Its just not in the budget for some small towns. I guess that's one reason why its in the news so much.

HA! That was my line this morning! I guess after last weeks fiasco (buses spinning out, in the ditches, stuck) the school districts are being cautious. We'll see what really falls during the day, to see if it made sense.

My kid was on the bus that did 6 donuts in the middle of the road last week - the kids loved it but I bet the bus driver was checking his undies afterwards.

I guess we should be glad that there is nothing else bad enough going on to pre-empt the weather reports.

It's possible I am not remembering this right but back in the day, it seems that in a the case of today's snow, they would have kept the schools open but not had bus service. Seems to make much more sense than the general panic that seems to pervade the schools now. That way, kids could still walk to school, parents could take them if they wanted to etc. I received the message about schools being closed last night! Just seems a bit ridiculous to close the school based on a forecast of a possible 6-10 inches. Or, maybe I'm just irritated the kids are home today! lol

I wondered about that myself, I don't think they've ever done that up here. Pretty sure dropping the kids off would be the easy part, but getting them home in the afternoon during the worst of it could be tough for working parents, especially those that live out in the township. Not wise for kids to walk down 173 at any point, much less in a blizzard.

Wish I had a snow day today -:)
