There have been a few things I have heard and seen in the last few months that has concerned me for our communities safety. Squaters on foreclosed houses, car break ins, people out walking the streets at all hours of the night for no good reason. Is there or has there ever been a neighborhood watch program. I have seen Grayslake police vehicles more often it seems in Hainesville neighborhoods but is it enough?

I walk around a lot at all hours for my health.
I hate to be included in your list.
I'm sure my health is a good reason at least to me it is.
But you wouldn't know that just by looking at me would you ?

Anyway its best to leave cop business to the cops.
If you do see something just call them and let them handle it.

I was not saying that everyone walking around at night is up to no good it is most likely rarely the case but not always the case. I dont just see someone out past 11pm and automatically assume that is a bad person. I also agree that leaving police business up to the police but sometime the police are not always in the right place at the right time. I have family visiting from out of town and last night a man on foot was breaking into their car in my driveway. It just so happened that my neighbor was coming home late from work and saw the guy and called us.. If it wasnt for that neighbor scaring him away it could have been alot worse. I am just saying sometimes an extra set of eyes and ears can't hurt to keep our neighborhood safe.

One in the morning we spotted black male looking through window of car on driveway. Chased him off. Too bad i live in The Socialist Republic of Illinois. Could have taken a shot and saved a couple a hundred dollars worth of equipment and gotten rid of a criminal. But i called the cops instead. When seconds count the police are minutes away. Insurance wont recoup money or the personal violation i lost. I am with you concerned resident.

Since when did Illinois become a republican controlled state ?
But you are right about the socialist part thanks to Obama.
Republicans are FOR guns its the democrats that are against them.

I'm all for getting a thug breaking into a car arrested.
I'm not ok with going after people walking legally down a street.
I'm also against you're shoot first attitude.
How do you really know if the guy owns the car or not.
He could be trying to break into his own car.
Plenty of people accidently have locked their keys inside.
Or considering the weather locks can freeze.

Whether formal or not, neighbors can watch out for neighbors, and call the cops if you feel something's not right. If you know there is a squatter in a vacant house, call and keep calling. If you call the County Recorders office, they will tell you who owns the house and you can track it down from there. I had to do that with the foreclosure right next door to me, luckily the VA owns it now and their property manager was out the same day after I called to complain.

If the cops patrol a block often, and word gets out that the residents call the cops, criminals tend to avoid it. Works for our street, at least.

A socialist republic has nothing to do with being republican. Its meaning is a socialist state.

either way if illinois is a socialist republic its still because of Obama.
I just hate seeing the term republic being connected to the kind of socialism being brought on by Obama.
Now that he won a second term he totally owns the economy, healthcare, and every other socialism program he promotes.

with you on this.
the real solution is to get the cops involved.
even if that takes calling 911 whenever you see a crime occurring or about to occur.

If your taking about Hainesville , tell the mayor your problems, she has a lot of pull with law enforcement. See how she PULLED our police department out. And PULLED punches by saying she would not be the tie breaking vote when the board had to vote on keeping or disbanding the department. And also PULLED a vote for increasing the mayors wages because no one was running against her for the election. I would of paid more taxes for keeping our PD just to pay for more fuel so they would drive around a lot more so there would be a better chance at catching stupids doing illegal things in the village and to our property. Yes she has a lot of PULL !

Tax man looking back at the minutes was the increase voted on back in August or September? Well before packets were available? So how coul she know no one was running against her? Does she have a psychic in staff? Did not see that in the budget. I am all for open critisim but if you are going to say something make it factual please. If anything increasing pay would entice more people to run due to better pay.

She probably did the increase because she would be a shoe in because if it came down to candidate forums the ones with different ideas would have been blasted for not having been mayor before. Ok got me on that one. Still I feel the same as other posts and residents about the lack of code enforcements . And for grass length violations the board did make some kind of policy for that. Notify owner , send letters , give them time limits , then after quite soon time the village might cut it themselves and put a lien on the property. I remember one resident had a complaint on a vacant house next door she notified the village about numerous times, and nothing happened. Finally the resident contacted a trustee and he cut the grass himself. At the next board meeting the resident got up to thank the trustee for the quick action. And then the mayor sternly scolded the trustee in front of everyone. Probably cause the trustee took quick action instead of months of red tape and excuses from the mayor.
