As a dad, I can see him trying to get his son to a tennis lesson. But, the airport wasn't that far he couldn't have caught a cab or limo from Chicago Executive. He's obviously got the money for a cab...Aviation Gas,(AVGAS 100LL), is selling for about $5.30/gallon and that plane probable burns around 9 gallons per hour...

He'll probably end up losing his license over this. And should.

It was IRRESPONSIBLE. A licensed pilot has a responsibility to ensure the safety of every flight, which includes proper planning. This man was careless and reckless and just plain dangerous.

I can see, if the plane were in trouble, and he had to choose between landing on Milwaukee, which is congested, and the golf course that he would choose the Golf Course. But, this was not the case.

If he didn't endanger people landing the plane, he would've taking off from a snow covered par 4 "runway". I heard his antics basically shut down 22.

Is this the height of arrogance, or what? This man's pilot's license needs to be revoked just on the basis of his stupidity.

Oh, but wait, he'll hire a high-priced lawyer and avoid any problems.

Buy them the gold watch AFTER the class action lawsuit against Mother Nature for having the audacity to allow a tree to grow in the spot where he wanted his plane to land.

Bravo Robert! Unconventional, maybe, but not unsafe… Ski equipped, he couldn't land at the airport... Robert is partly a victim of all of those with cell phones just itching to call 911 for anything. Had he have previously sought permission from the course owners, nothing would have changed, and he may have been perfectly legal, depending on local ordinances, and we downstaters all know the Chicago area can have wacky local laws. The hot air ballooning fraternity is plagued with local authorities responding to such 911 calls reporting “crashing” balloons that are simply putting down normally. In one notable Danville area event, a fixed-wing pilot (like Robert) with honest-to-God engine trouble put down in a wheat field close to a farmhouse, and someone called the local sheriff, who responded at 80-100 mph, and drove the over-heated cruiser out into the wheat field right up to the disabled airplane. The hot car set the crop on fire, burned up the cruiser, the plane, the wheat, and nearly the farmhouse. Talk about the lawsuits! We bet the farmer wished that call had never been made! Planes have recently been allowed to take off from and continue their flights from area interstates - why the heavy hand by the gendarmes in this case?

What this man did is a huge deal.. He should not allowed to fly for at least a year.. There are plenty of very good reasons to NOT just let powered aircraft land and take off where ever they want. It would take to many pages to explain it to you, I guess. It was absolutely irresponsible and whether you like it or not, he endangered many lives.

It was stupid. Period. It showed poor airman ship an conduct resulting from judgment that doesn't lend it's self to good piloting..

Man, You gotta be kidding me..
