I heard from a friend that the Walmart in Antioch, IL is closed because the roof collapsed, but I can't find anything in the news about it. Anyone know anything or when it will re-open? I'm kind of fond of our Super Walmart.

The roof may have not "caved in", but it appears that there is structural damage.

Apparently the structural engineering when they built it didn't take into account the wild winters we can get here and didn't account for a heavy snowload. I know the storm we just had was extreme, but you would think they would take into account a worse case scenario as far as the structural engineering is concerned. Somebody screwed up.

Cheaply built building...horrible store. Should have never been built in Antioch.

I think they built it using their own products!

Itís too bad that they had to use some of the money set aside for engineers to pay for the lawyers to fight to let them build in Antioch. After all they are a bad neighbor that will do no good for Antioch. Except for the millions of dollars they pay in taxes that pay for the snow plows that cleared your streets. What a horrible business to have near us. Where are all of these downtown businesses to support our town in this recession? You all better hope that the roof doesnít come in at the Wal-Mart.

Are you sure they pay their share of taxes?

Funny how many of you are against Walmart. But it is sure busy on Saturday afternoon and Sunday before a foot ball game. I think it has helped to bring people into Antioch and share the taxes. I rather shop in my own town then pay the tax to another town.
I hope the damage isn't to bad, and they can open soon.

I'm assuming that Walmart brought in Chinese architects to go alonbg with the chinese supplied building materials to erect the Super-Walmart in Antioch?

who knows. The stories in the papers elude to some minor damage and quotes say nothing is wrong with the store. Only that snow needs to be removed from the roof.

The store is still closed a week later.

Somebody approved the roof and the finished product.

The blizzard hit Tuesday, late in the day. The store was open Sunday, not sure if that was the first day or not. Either way, doesn't look like a week on my calendar.

Not speaking pro or con Walmart, just pointing out the inaccuracy.

I dont shop at Walmuck. What you may save with somethings, they jack up the price with others. Thank goodness there is a choice in Antioch to shop.

I like "The Pig," but man does that store smell bad! It's like old people died there and the cleaning crew hasn't gotten around to disposing of the bodies. My wife refuses to go in there because the smell makes her gag. I put up with it occasionally because they have good deals in the meat department.

I don't think the Pig smells that bad. No worse than Butera. It's an old store, kinda reminds me of days past, shopping with my Grandmother. I like the Pig. Hope they hang around forever.

Maybe your wife needs to go to the doctor. Might have that acid reflux or something. Maybe its her perfume. I personally dont notice a smell, nor does anyone else that I know that goes there.

Butera, now that store is gross. Dirtiest store I ever have seen. Their employees are like robots and their prices are outrageous.

So her perfume and medical issues you would presume makes her ill inside Piggly Wiggly but no other store? Weird conclusion.

I definitely notice a strong musty smell in that store, but I still enjoy shopping there.

I prefer to shop at either Meijer or Woodmans, but both are a haul.

I like Butera for their European stuff. I find so many things there that I can't get elsewhere in our area. I won't buy most of their meat though.
